Hello,

So sadly once again, my transmission is beggining to play up, this is a genuine certified mitsubishi transmission which i got fitted for $3000+ main reason being due to the warranty, its still under warranty and im taking it back in, my main question is weather I should look at buying a new car or not as this will be the 3rd transmission and all i really do is just drive it, sure the occasional foot to the floor but not often.

Which car should i look at, ive recently been looking at a manual holden vyii s, but don't know weather the upgrade is worth it considering i could have the exact same issues.

Also is it better to trade-in, or private with the current market.

Aw crap. I empathise. I went through 5 - yeah, really - in my TP. The 4 replacements were all Mitsubishi warranted and fitted. Now whilst I only ever paid for the first one, there was just all the freakin hassle. And yes, I know that the first gen autos did this and the 3rd gens are a whole lot better. But that said, you have paid good money here for a factory recommended and warranted replacement. Stick with it and don't take no for an answer till the dealer fixes it. You will doubtless spend more money again on a replacement car on top of the 3k you have already laid out if you go down that route. Do you really want to spend even more.....?

After owning an EL Falcon for a number of years, i find the 3 gen gearbox a little random.

Yes, the 4 litre Falcon had bags of torque, but the old 4 speed they had in there (which was essentially a design about 10 years old even then) was a bewt. Nice and predictalbe, no harsh up or down shifts - just a smooth runner that put the power down really evenly and well.

My TJ 4 speed tippie is an indecisive unit. Does the job, but down and up shifts between 1 and 2 are pretty RS. Particularly annoying in peak hour traffic on the freeway....OK in the surburbs, but the gearbox basically seems to not like slow work.

Car has only done 90K, and have just had the gearbox flushed and the software flashed by Mitsi - but to no avail.

Is it bad to do this? I don't do it much but I know a friend who does it all the time in his Camry and Skyline...

you run flat chat backwards and then try to run forward without coming to a complete stop and see how you go!,very cruel on the box and your mate has no mechanical sympathy!hurts the box, diff,cv joints, mounts etc from shockloading

i think hes meaning more 'shifting while still rolling'. i shift R to D while rolling at probably 3-4km/h. the 5spd tippy trans is so slow at the shift, and sluggishly slides into it that its a very smooth transition

Thats a downgrade mate. Stick with the mitsu in the long run, PITA but lucky you dont need to pay for it, just the hassle of not having a car when its not your fault is the crap bit. if anything sell this and get another TW/L

Yes he is rolling backwards at 4-5km/h, not at 15km/h or anything is still not advisable?

to go through 3 something must be causing it... is it the same delear servicing the car and fitting the boxes each time? maybe there putting the wrong fluid in it... do you no if the same thing is going wrong each time..?

sounds sus mate, id be getting to the bottom of it before your warranty runs out.... let mitsu the new one under warranty again and then get a service done buy a tranny expert straight away.. maybe even get a cooler fitted for it aswell.. thats what id do...
