Hey all,
Hoping someone with some experience will "ok" this setup before I order all the gear.
Two clarion PXW1251 Subs (the top range 2 ohm 12 inch, 500w RMS ones)
Sealed dual enclosure
Clarion DPX1851 amp (850W mono block) to power the subs
I guess my main question is whether or not this amp is okay for these subs. I'm also planning on reverse mounting them so the faces point into the box and you see the sexy back-end of the subs. From what I hear this looks and sounds pretty good; can anyone confirm?
Cheers :D
itll sound great, but i can certainly think of better ways to spend the cash. what prices are you looking at for the products?

Question: Are you willing to go other brands? also whats your budget.
It would certainly thump quite a bit.
The sub may be a little underpowered for both subs, but that isnt so bad.
Woob im guessing the price is around $320 for the amp, and around $200 each for the subs (Ryda.com.au) So if your budged is around $700-800, that isnt a bad set up.
Personally I may go for something along the lines of:
Soundstream RW-12 - Dual 4ohm, 600wrms $400 @ ryda
Soundstream SPLX-12 - Dual 4ohm 750wrms $429 @ ryda
Boston G512-44 12" - Dual 4ohm 450wrms $554 @ ryda
Amp wise - Stick with the clarion at $320 for 850wrms @ 2ohm
Just depends on what you're looking for - if you're desperate for 2 12's, thats probably the cheapest you can get it - lots of people on here who will have lots of opinions and different tastes :-)
Oh - if you're in Sydney, Lifestyle store in parramatta have a sale on this coming week aswell - Rockford stuff is rather cheap too.
Can probably pick up a P3D412 for $400

Yeah Ers is spot on. All from Ryda.com.au and comes to $850 all up. Full Install quote is about $300; wiring etc supplied. What were your ideas about better spending lol?

Spot on mate; all from Ryda. About $300 for the install as well though. I'm really keen on all Clarion gear just because of its reputation hey. I've only ever had Clarion or Alpine gear because imho they're the best. At the moment have Alpine deck, alpine 6.5 splits in the front, alpine 6x9's in the back and and alpine 4 channel amp...

only keen on Alpine and Clarion mate! And it's all coming to about $850 plus roughly $300 for install. How does your type R go when it's in a ported box?
For $850 in total - it will be hard to beat.
Personally - nothing wrong with Clarion gear, for the price they have really decent gear.
Are you having Ryda install this aswell?

Nah mate I work in Canberra and live in Perth. Ordering from Ryda, sending it straight home to perth and getting it all done up over xmas when I get to go home lol. Just preparing in advance.

why not spend $400 on a mono and $400 on a good single sub? at $400 youll find that a range or subs available will certainly be better than alpine and clarion. consider building your own box to spec and itll all come to about $850 anyway.
have a look at DD, hertz, JL and image dynamics subs. why not visit a specialty store and have a listen to what they have in stock?
to be honest, everything short of clarions decks have quite a poor reputation in the car audio world. some of their amps are decent, i used to own one based on a Arc design as it was good, but the build quality wasnt quite Arc standard :P
Imo i rate Pioneer speakers/subs above Clarion, and Clarion decks and amps above pioneer, whereas i rate Alpine above both of them. All the best brands you would have never heard of, but out of the mainstream gear Alpine is pretty unbeatable as an all rounder.
I think however, if you are keen on that setup, you will be very happy with it. as i said it will sound great, and its the brand you like so go for it! (And the new clarion subs so look sexy) :)
If you're after something a bit more powerful - Pioneer TS-W3001D4, around $280 each on ebay. 1000w RMS, 3000w peak @ 2ohm.
These things have enough power to flex your roof.
Specs: http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/products/25/130/201/TS-W3001D4/specs.html
For the mono, have a look at the Soundstream Turantula TRX1000D, they're about $400 and put out 800w RMS @ 2ohm, and can run a stable 1000w @ 1ohm :P

I too am huge on Alpine gear, every system Ive had(bout 6 ova $3k) Have all had at least a Alpine deck and mostly Alpine subs(focal, vibe, phoenix gold, clarion, soundstream gear as well). Me personally for that kinda budget, I'd wait save and stretch a little further and would be running 2 x Alpine SWR-1222D 12" Type R Subwoofers, and running them off a pair of bridged Jaycar Response 2x150wrms amplifiers. Being dual 2ohm running the subs at 4ohm load each you will be able to give them 500wrms to each woofer. This would cost you a total of $1150, based on the dealer knocking off $50 per sub coz yur buying two(pay cash) and $249 for each Amp(Jaycar site). This would both hit damn hard and sound nice n sweet.
edit~ run the two Alpines off the mono "Lugo" suggested - Soundstream Turantula TRX1000D
Just a thought.

I'm just going to throw another suggestion out there.
Vibe Active CBR Twin EVO twin ( since we have a twin theme ).
You will get:
2x 12inch Vibe BlackAir II Subwoofers
Vibe Enclosure loaded with twin turbo ports
Blackbox II mounted to box
Vibe Wiring kit
Patented Quick release plug
All for RRP$949.
At the end of the day, you really need to get out and have a listen to these woofers. :D

It would be good if a thread like this was stickied for people, so they could get other people opinions on what they want before they go out and order.

Its got the factory made ported box, hammers rather well, and in the previous car we got 138.8 out of it with a light tune, (lancer sedan) I think they still sell it with the box as well still.

i know it sounds silly but two of the loudest cars i have done through work were 2x 12" r type subs (and pdx1.1000) and the other was these clarion subs (all be it in 15" fashion with a mono for each)
i have done the pxw1251 dozens of times with the smaller clarion mono and they run great!

Seriously I was so devistated when they left the country 2 years ago and the new range is so much cheaper and sounds better. Plus I can not be bothered looking at mixed combo's.
Woob I am an Alpine hater from way back, but if people like the sound then that is their choice.
Super_sheep you need to go get a DDZ 10inch and play in the 150's. It is not uncommon though for twin type-r's with the 1kw hitting 140db.

a single treo engineering will hit 140.. so will a single DD3512
charisma.. the only alpine product you are likely to see in my cars is a deck :) love the 7998R's, bang for buck second hand, their features are unbeatable! and my mate danny over in vic (going to see him in perth today actually) has a PXA-H900 and getting a 7990 F1 Status deck, which is practically THE best/processor combo deck avail on the market atm.. but as for subs and speakers, i am not particularly partial to them :)

Next car (not the magna, next proper car) im sticking to one or two brands.
So much easier, cleaner.....Kinda over trying to mix and match.

you do realise that you are better off value and quality wise to mix and match components?
you do realise that you are better off value and quality wise to mix and match components?
To a certain extent.
If I read what tim, charisma, woob and a few others had written on here 1 year ago - my set up would have been vastly different.
The only way I would mix and match would be 1 brand for speakers, 1 brand for amps.
Mr İharisma

This is true to an extent, however I would gladly have:
Boston Z6
Boston GT amps
Boston G5 12
Hertz Mille MK3
Hertz HP amps
Hertz Mille 12inch or
Morel Elate 9's
Morel Ultimo 12
Oz Audio ME 180cs
Oz Audio Amp
Oz Audio ME 12.2
The Vibe CBR box I mentioned is actually an active kit like Focal make. It means that the amp is acutally apart of the box and with the fast plug that contains the power / remote / ground, you can remove the entire woofer set up in under a minute. Seems much easier than saying:
Get 2x XXX subs
A box made by XXX
Amp by XXX
Wiring kit by XXX
and it is cheaper / easier to install and definately up their in terms of SQ compared to mixing and matching subs / boxes and amps ;)

and if i was to ask you to audition some gear and let me know what the best choices in your opinion would be, 1 out of each:
speakers: Boston Z6, Hertz Mille MK3, Morel Elate 9's, Oz Audio ME 180cs
amps: Boston GT amps, Hertz HP amps, Oz Audio Amp
sub: Boston G5 12, Hertz Mille 12inch or, Morel Ultimo 12, Oz Audio ME 12.2
and surely they are all fantastic products which you will not hesitate to purchase, but auditioning all of them and building up a system from them is a different story when you will only purchase a component/s from each company
personally out of those my set-up would be:
morel elate
boston GT amp/s (personally i just like the look of them, nothing really that is superior soundwise from hertz or oz)
hertz mille or morel ultimo
so really, what it comes down to is personal preference, but unless you are out to build a boston acoustics show car you will consider running different brands.
unless you are running all alpine.. which is very much heard of..
edit: p.s. im not here to have an argument with you at the slightest, just in my opinion if i was to go and spend money on something like all (e.g.) kicker components from any retailer id rather look around and for the same budget purchase components from different brands
Mr İharisma

Yeah it is definately worth looking other brands. Usually I like to keep the speakers the same and amps can be different. I took me a lot of Auditioning to change my all Boston speaker set up to change the sub.
I suggested the Vibe active system as it has sub / sub amp / box and kit all in one. It is by no means keeping the entire system the same - great for lazy people like me :D At the end of the day yeah I'm sure their are louder ( 2x DD512 with a 1.5kw Jaycar amp ) and better sounding for a twin woofer set up for the money but I have found it comes down to convenience 90% of the time. Also you have to look at what your getting:
2x 12inch subs @$295ea
2x Turbo Ports @ $50ea
1x Wiring kit @ $105
1x Fast Plug @ $32
Thats $827 plus your getting an amp and a properly designed box as well for a little over $100extra.
Yes running all Alpine is heard off, unfortunately the talk is that they not that good....
But yeah at the end of the day an opinion is exactly that, I'm not going to go around to every fully sick bogan is his sup'd up commodore bagging out his all Alpine system just because it is Alpine. If people want 2kw running 2x 15's and the front running off the headunit that is their choice - that's the beauty of Car Audio, their isn't really a set rule for everyone. :P

Yeah man, these are active enclosures which means the sub / amp / box are together. Vibe are nice enough to including wiring for almost everything. Their speakers come with high quality 16ga wiring and the active kits come with a full wiring kit. :D
Check out http://www.vibeaudio.co.uk/products/evoactives/ for more on the Evo's which hold the BlackAir II+ subs.

There is a lot of damn good SQ, SPL comp gear in this list, but I cant believe you have left out Focal, Audison, Tru Tech from any of these lists?
I am a huge Focal fan, Focal components, to give their most listening enjoyment, need to be, tuned, installed and powered correctly for them to really shine their most.
I got an email from the Au dist the other day listing a new set of speakers coming to us, the 165KRX2 apparently RRP is from $900-$1k but "well worth the listen and the price tag).
I myself(this setup) am only running the base 165 A1 Access series splits and Im stoked, today I had a listen to my brother inlaws Alpine Type R splits and these Focals kill them(im still tunning off my Alpine deck have a 2x80wrms amp ready to go in).
