Hi Guys,

I got my VR-X Magna back in July and loving it.. Although having some issues which im hoping you guys can clear up for me..

• Ever since i got the VR-X, during cold starts whenever i put it into gear (reverse or drive) there's this rattling feel/sound coming through the stick.. but if i leave the Magna to warm up a little there is no rattling ?? any idea what this is? it hasn't got worst since i had it. The Fluid have been changed twice and made no diff.

• My SRS light comes on while driving and goes away again after a few minutes, this happens once or twice every fortnight..

Hope you guys can clear these up for me..

Cheers!

You definetly DONT want your airbag blowing up in your face while driving because of some error so I would get it checked out asap.

G'day and welcome.
With the transmission, how many k's has it been since it's last full flush? What state is the fluid in? Nice and red? Good level? They love a good flush (was it a full flush when the fluid was changed? )with fresh genuine mitsubishi fluid. Could be a number of other problems but being when it is cold and not hot the fluid level / condition could be a possible cause.
In regards to the SRS light, highly likey is a loose connection somewhere, but best to take to a Mitsubishi dealer to check to make sure.
Best of luck and let us know how you go!

When i got the Magna i did a full service a couple of weeks later, the fluid was dirty and i think it wasn't ever been changed (magna done 159,000k).. Its been refilled with genuine fluid from mitsubishi twice, and its red now - slightly dirty because of the first batch.. it's been only about 1000ks since the last time it was done (about a month ago) - the transmission goes fine, no slipping nothing at all - just the cold start rattle (only when into gear) - my brother seem to think its a mount somewhere near the gearbox that expands when warm?? bit confusing..

I hope i don't need a new transmission already...

Transmission or engine mount would be my next guess, Given the K's the car has done, If the Tranmission is running smooth then that is a good sign, and points to something "external" to the actual box itself. Could be a little rubber washer on the selector?
If the SRS light is coming on the worst thing that should happen is the airbags don't work. (Lets hope you never need to find out) I think there is a thread somewhere on the TL / TW series having some sort of wiring problem periodically with the SRS system (maybe the ones made on Mondays or something lol ). There are 4 airbags and it only takes one loose connection to bring the light on.
Hope this helps.

Is this rubber washer (selector) something i can visually see/replace?

Regarding the SRS, is it best to take to mitsubishi or can i take it to any mechanics? just that i previously had a holden and it was a nightmare getting it fixed at Holden. So much $$$$!

I'm located in Geelong, Vic - can anybody recommend a good place?

Thanks heaps for your speedy response guys!

I suggest downloading the service manual from the top of "Tech Torque" section. (if you haven't already it is around 300mb)You'll see a whole lot of little parts that can cause "rattles". It would be a process of elimination  Main thing is the transmission is running smooth and drives well.

In regards to the SRS problem a Mitsubishi dealer would have the correct diagonistic tools. (I.e. Plug into computer and talk Mitsubishi to Mitsubishi and find out which of the 95 fault codes is causing the problem) The manual stongly suggests this.

Anyone in Victoria able to help?

Just a thought with the airbag issue, check the cable under the seats that connect the seat-mounted side airbags to the car. If the connection isn't clipped in properly it would be very easy to bump it out when sliding something under the seat (or moving the seats around).

I didn't realise the cable was there until I removed my passenger seat when installing my Car PC. It's a bit too exposed for my liking.

Will have a look.. it's kinda weird thou now you mentioned it - it happens only when im sitting in the drivers seat - my partner says she never gets the SRS light when she drives.... hmmm maybe its telling me something?

Took it to a local mechanic (they have mitsubishi qualifications - says they deal with Magna's all the time) - they said they don't see any problems with the SRS light, they said something that it should show up on their computer if it was a problem. I've pushed the yellow cords under the drivers seat and kind of felt a click but ever since the weekend - no srs light.. maybe that was it? loose cord? as i always adjust the drivers seat when my partner takes over the car.

Also, the chrome t-stick is peeling off, what i can do about it?! looks fugly!
