Hey Guys n Gals,

So I had a run in with the corner of a building in a city lane way the other day and smacked my passanger wing mirror kinda bad. It knocked the mirror out of the housing, which landed on the ground and ended up with a rather large crack in it and some fragments coming out. I took it to Mitsu to try and get a new one, but no luck, because the back of my mirror, has broken off a part of the motor aswell! Mitsu said '$144 for a whole new non-color coded housing, and it's on backorder' so they said 'go to a wreckers, it'll be easier and faster'. Before I can go to a wreckers I need to take my mirror apart and see what's still fine and what I need new, but I can't manage to take the damn thing apart!!

Has anyone done this\know how to do this?

I tried taking my door trim off but I couldn't see anything obvious that was connected to the mirror. I have some photos of the broken mirror and the housing if that's of any use to people willing to offer advice?

Cheers in advance :-)

Twist the mirror forward or backwards on the door. You'll see 2 10mm bolts that you'll need to undo. Prob need an extension of some sort. After you undo both of them, the mirror will lift away. Unplug the wires & you're finished.

Gettin some pics right now for ya!!

31 dollars at jolly rogers dandenong, 29 dollars to get an aerosol colour matched to your cars colour code, like $2 for some 800g sandpaper and $10 for a generic brand clear auto spray pack... total $72...

Thansk very much fella's :-) None of my sockets will fit in down to the bolt, extension or not... Perhaps I can find some slimmer sockets at Bunnings.

Is Jolly Rogers a wreckers in Dande?

Someone has offered to sell me a Silver TF wing mirror on here, I'll see how that goes I think... Hopefully I can just get the motor and mirror out of it and put it in the housing, save myself doing a poor spray job :-<

I'm pretty sure I've got a socket set that'll fix that up for ya mate. If your home tonight I might drop by on my way out and give you a hand if you like.

I know this thread is a few years old, so I hope someone is still reading it.

I am trying to replace my drivers side mirror assembly on a 1998 Magna Wagon. I ordered a replacement assembly from CarsRus in Queensland and it looks identical to the one I want to remove. The problem is that the new assembly doesn't swivel on the base, so I don't know how I am going to access the bolts to put it on. It does have 4 small phillips head screws on the base part that I thought might be locking the two parts together, but removing them didn't seem to do anything. It still wouldn't swivel. I don't want to force to much as the base plastic seems fragile.

The base is separate from the mirror housing and if you try to swivel it, it will move fractionally (1mm or so). Is there something I need to do to make it swivel like in your photos (and like the assembly I want to remove), or have I been sent a faulty assembly? Ta.

Mybe the spring in the mirror is to hard, so you have to insist harder! Mines was the same when i try to swivel first time!

You'll need some 1/8inch sockets. Worked a treat on mine, but just!

So far so good. With enough force to make me squirm with fear that the housing would break, I managed to get it to swivel in both directions. Ta for that.

Now for the bolt. My sprocket set heads are too fat to fit into the space, so I will have to buy one. I'm a bit confused about the size though. 10mm or 1/8 inch. 1/8 inch seems wrong as that is only 3.175mm and the bolt head looks a lot bigger than that. I can't get a tape down to measure it although I'm sure I can get something that will allow the bolt head to make an imprint on it and I can measure the imprint. But I'll try Bunnings first as they have a good returns policy if the one I get doesn't work.

i'm pretty sure its just a 10mm socket mate...

Yeah 10 mm, maybe lathiat meant 3/8" sockets.

All done. I got one of those steel tube type socket sets from Bunnings and that did the trick. 10mm head was the one that fitted.

Thanks to all for your help.
