Hi all,
I was driving my car home last nite in tiptronic, when I stopped at some traffic lights without gearing down back to 1st. Hence, the car had to select 1st automatically. (which its designed to do). Anyway, when I stopped the car jerked just before stopping and sounded as though one of the wheels stopped turning. When I tryed to accellarate, it felt like I had the handbrake on. The car jumped forward a few times, it sounded as though one or two wheels weren.t turning then all of a sudden it will all just free up and be perfectly fine. It does this every time i stop at lights in tiptronic. in D its fine. When I got home I put it in the garage and changed from D to R and it make a horrible clunk sound.

The car is an '03 TJ AWD.

Has anybody had this happen to them or know what it could be?

Regards, Paul.

if its doing it in tippy but not D i'd say its ECU, as a gear is a gear whether its being auto or manually selected

So possibly disconect battery to reset the ECU?

Thats wat i'm worried about. It feels and sounds expensive haha. It's wierd that its fine in D but only stuffs up when i dont down shift in tiptronic. Could be an ECU problem in the fact that it has forgotten to downshift wen the car comes to a stop and it takes it a second to get back to first? Although my dash display says it goes back to 1st...this is soo confusing!!

Id say leave it in drive for a few days and dont put it in Tippy and see how she goes..
