My transmission fluid (2.6 auto) was VERY low, basically empty, and I added some fluid. Someone I know told me they can take up to 4 litres, but I only put in less than 1 litre, and my hard to read dip stick says it's overfilled.
How much should it take?

probably best to drain it and start from scratch. And yeah they are supposed to take 4litres of tranny fluid.
i dunno about the auto box, but on the manual there is a Drain Plug, and a Level plug...basically u put the car on a level surface and put enough oil so that when u take the level plug out it is right there.......about 2 litres i tihnk correct me if im wrong?

DO NOT ADD MORE FLUID!!!! over filling an auto transmission is one of the worst things you can do. unless you have a severe leak you will not need hardly any to top it up. 1 litre was probably already to much. you probably did it wrong. run your car until its hot. park it on a flat surface and turn it off. check the fluid. if its low, add a little more through the dipstick hole. turn your car back on and run it through the gears. turn it off and check it again. to much fluid=BIG BAD!!!!

Too late, I read the manual and it said not to overfill it, but I've put in about 3 1/2L, I was scared this was too much but it seems to be running well.
What can go wrong if it's overfilled?
