View Full Version : Lowering - Front vs Rear

Still working towards lowering the Ralliart, but I've got a question for those of you who have lowered your magna or verada...

How many people have opted for super-lows (front) and lows (rear) and how has it worked out, i've heard of some people doing this because it looks more even. Is there any truth to that?

Certainly with my ride there appears to be far more scope to lower the front (in terms of guard / arch clearance) than the rear...

cheers.

Superlows/Lows makes the gap between the tyre and wheel arch roughly even (front vs back), since the front wheel arch is higher than the back one.

Lows makes the sideskirt/body even with the ground.

I prefer the Lows all around. Looks better imo, and is supposed to handle/ride better. Plus I'd hate to go any lower with the front spoiler. I haven't scraped my front spoiler since I got it repainted in July (touch wood), but I imagine I've had plenty of close calls.

Superlows front and lows at the rear look better on a verada, sports or exec because they dont have a straight side skirt so it looks less obvious, on a vrx and ralliart kit i imagine it would look quite wedge like.

Any difference between Lovells and Kings in this regard, from memory kings don't make super-lows for the rears?

IMO you should always lower a car evenly. if you lower the front more than the rear you will get the wedge effect and that will unballance the cars stability. it may even feel lighter in the rear when cornering. lowering a car is suposed to be for handling more that looks.

To a certain extent you have that appearance already with the Ralliart's front splitter...

I assume you're referring to Kings and not Lovells ?

If you're talking to me, then yeah, I'm referring to Kings.

King Lows and Lovell Superlows are supposed to be within 5-10mm of eachother, height-wise.

It's most noticable when you have a 'flat' sideskirt above the ground.

Lows all round is looking the likely choice at the moment for a number of reasons, i'm just trying to envisage how much lower this will be than standard height for the Ralliart.

That said it may well be the only choice i have with my current wheel / tyre combo.

Ralliart springs are similar to the VR-X ones aren't they? I've got some before and after piccies in my Members Machines (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58568) thread if it helps.

Thanks gives a nice appearance.

I'm not 100% sure if the springs are identical or not ... I'm trying to find my TJ workshop / service manual CD which provides the standard ride heights for both so we'll see. That said, i'm sure this will be different because of the different body-kits also.

According to the manufacturers specs, the minimum running ground clearance for the Ralliart is 110mm (just behind the front wheels), i'm sure the splitter is the lowest point and will be confirming this myself shortly, could also be bad labeling on the diagram itself.

Executive, Advance, Sports, Verada specs state they are all 165mm as a comparison.

Interestingly, the splitter on my Ralliart is ~125mm and the side skirt ~150mm go figure!

put superlows on my TF and they arnt suited for the roads in my area i scraped the collector on the road on the test run so im back at stock hight untill i get time to put on lows i had 3.5 inch clearace from the cross member under the motor to the road the collector sits a little lower on the packys, mind you it looked great, springs will probly go on for sale forum soon

well i guess i can now put my two cents worth in....i have a TH Sports that i put onto Lovells super lows all round.....great looks ..handled sort of all right...but was realisticaly to low for 3 kids and two adult...

anyway....then got a hold of a set of Low Lovells and a set of KYBS and put this on as a kit....mmm handles great ..but looks like s**t....the front guard used to sit just on the tyre and the rear tucked a liitle bit under..see avatar

but since putting the lows on ,the front was lifted by about 10mm if that but the rear must have gone up 20-30mm and it now has a woeful looking wedge shape....at least with the Superlows it was even..

how anyone could consider doing a superlow front/low rear combo is what the..it would look crap..

so now im going to put the Superlows back on with the KYBs and see how it handles and looks...

I'm going King lows today,i want better handling, minimal scrapes and reasonable travel. I do like the look of some spring combos, but you increase your chances of rim-tyre damage with super lows. Are the different height springs different ratings? If they are would'nt that stuff the handling?

King Superlows are supposed to be a softer spring rate than King Lows. So yeah, Lows all around is better for handling than Superlow/Low combo.

I run king super low front low rear in both my vrx and ralliart, and the both handel fine. As for looks here's a picy

I know it's not on flat ground but it will give you an idea and it sits approx 110 to 120mm off the ground just behind the front wheel.

Very nice :)

I'm thinking lows rear will be the best I can do with the rims i have (i dont want to change them), so i'll see how hard the guards can be rolled and then see what the suspension guys say about the rest from there....

The vrx has had some of the flare cut away under the gaurd so the wheels will clear. If you were to do this you need to be very careful as one of mine has been cut back too far.

The Ralliart't tyres are too small for the car so I am considering doing the same thing so that I can fit the right sized tyre.

Kings = Compressed stock springs

IF that's true, why is there such a big difference in the spring rates? Surely compressed springs would have the same rate as uncompressed?

Go on i dare you gremlin to say that to kingsprings helpline, if they could jump out of the phone and slap, they would for saying that.

Kingspring lows/SL are completely different to stock springs, via spring rates, spring thickness.

Go super lows front, lows rear and get the rear compressed because magna's look so hot when the wheel arch sits just over the rear wheel/overlaps it.

AKKO should be right... with the VR-X flares, my back tyres *just* sit in the wheel arch. I imagine the Ralliart flares would be similar. A tad lower would look hotter, but is potentially not worth it depending on where your priorities lie.

yeah cause i didnt post that.. someone else here used my account (this person is now banned).. to post that garbage.. i deleted it as soon as i saw it..

although...

i did have king lows in my TJ sports and wasnt overly impressed by them.. the car didnt look that decent with them.. i ditched those for coilovers...

so far out of the 6 magnas ive owned (all been lowered).. my favourite setup is stock vrx/sports/ralliart springs slightly compressed... rides and handles like factory but looks the goods....

I've scraped my driveway at home a couple of times with King Lows.

When I don't scrape, I can often c0ck a wheel off the ground.

No lower for me :(
