hey, i was measuring up dimension in the boot of my TF today, so i can do a sub box, and got me wondering. what's the voltages and stuff on that little white light in the boot that lights up when u open it. would it be possible for me to power 4 neon tubes off it? or like 4 tubes and a fan or something like that?

i have done one neon before off that plug but wouldnt recomend any more than that could do some electrical damage?

I just recently hooked up a Cold Cathode to the plug on that light in the boot. It is a 12 volt connection that switches on when any of the doors or boot are opened. Now, I'm not sure what sort of amps you could get out of this, so I'd definitely get a multimeter in there to work out if you're gonna start blowing fuses with 4 neons and fan.

does it really switch on when doors open up? i thought it was only the boot. anywayz, is there a single fuse for this single light that i could change with a bigger one(more loading). would 2 cathode/neon tubes be ok then? would i be able to put more of them little LED lights instead of neon tubes?

Yes, it really switches on when the doors open, it's on the same circuit as your interior light. Try shutting the boot and looking through your ski hole while one of the doors are open.

However, if you have a Verada there is a Diode inserted between the boot switch and the boot lamp which I assume means the light only comes on when you open the boot, not the doors.

Be careful with replacing the fuse (which appears to be 15amps - thanks to Mr. Gregory's Service Manual) as there are a lot of other things running on this circuit: Map Lamps (where fitted), Room Lamp, Door Indicator Lamp, Cargo Lamp (Wagons only though), Foot Lamps (where fitted), Door Lamps, Puddle Lamps (where fitted), Reading Lamps (where fitted). Basically, all of your interior lighting, including the boot lamp, runs on a single 15amp fuse.

Until I snapped it, I had a single Cold Cathode in my boot, and I was using the plug from that boot lamp as my power source. If you want to be serious about a nice boot Neon/Cathode install then do it properly, as it looks like there's already enough going on in that circuit.

4 neons, 3 meters of EL wire and a strobe light in the boot as well as 2 neons under the seats, a Cold cath and 2 blue leds and no fuses blowing.

and all this is powered from that little white strobe light in the boot

yeah, i won't be changing the fuses if all that stuff uses the same fuse

a neon runs about .04 amps so you could run 375 neon tubes off the whole circuit without blowing the fuse... as long as everything stays below the 15 amps then no probs, ive even tried running halogen spotlights off the circuit but they only lit up very dimly, so dont worry about blowing fuses or overloading, even if you wire the neon back to front all that will happen will be it wont illuminate until you change the wires around...

There you go. I wasn't sure of the current drain of a neon or cold cathode. It appears 15 amps will be plenty to run all the stuff you want, plus all the interior lighting.
