What do you think about the stock VR-X exhaust system?

Does it need replacement?

Has anybody heard of theese guys: http://www.dtperformance.com.au/magnavrx.htm ?

i'd do what Redav said... (wheres KB and that FAQ????)

and Redav, don't be like that.... we all know what dyno's are like for comparissions!!! (crap, for those who cant remember - too many variables, no two are the same!!)

I don't understand something: if the headers/extractors are fitted to the engine block and the "exhaust holes" of the engine block are approx 3cm diameter how can you improve the "breathing" of the engine by fitting bigger diameter headers/extractors? the restriction will still be there at the 3cm diameter bottleneck before the bigger headers/extractors, right?

Just to add to Redavs exellent explination :D , For the tuned lenght bit, it means that as exhuast gases are leaving the cylinders, pulses (or presure waves) are created by the openning and clossing of the exhuast valve (same thing happens to the intake but thats a different story) witch travel through the exuast system. Some of each wave is reflected back towards the exhuast ports once they reach the point where the primarys join.

With tuned lenght extractors, the length of the primary collectors is tuned so that the waves that are headed back towards the exhuast ports hit the exhuast valve just before it opens so that creates a reduction in presure sucking more exuast out, hard to explain without pics

I just found a good explination on tuned lenght intake runners (same principle as extractors only this time the reflected waves are used to push not pull)

asked for a quote and this is what he said:

Kevin,The VRX system starts from $1200.00 and will gain around 14 kilo watts
more power. If you can call me on 8212 4100 and we can talk about the options
you can have.
~end~

I guess a separate exhaust line for each cylinder would be perfect?

six pipes coming out under the back of the car :)

The Merc SL600 would look nice with 12

Did the guy really split the exhaust, or did they just add twin tips? How much do you guys reckon it would be to get it properly split?

Magna's with twin exhausts look pretty decent. Of course only if both work.

Please could someone enlighten me on the phenomena called 'leaning' (as in fuel to air mixture not the lurching on the pavemant out the pub variety :D ) and any relationship 'leaning' has with fitted EXTRACTORS. Can 'pinging' be a sign of a lean fuel mix?

Hmm. Thank you Team J. That's exactly what I've been hearing. I put off installing Pacemakers on my 03 Exec cos of this. How is 'leaning' dealt with if it has appeared specifically because an Extractor/Exhaust/Filter mod has been applied? Install a rising pressure fuel regulator??? I hear this removes 'flat spots'. Gosh, I wish I was more mechanically minded

:) Ever so ta, Radev. I shall proceed as suggested. I'll do a post when its all done so we can all benefit somewhat....
