Hi all,

I bought a 1997 TE Magna sedan a little over 14 months ago and i'd like to start knocking some of the little quirks on the head. It had previously been in a front end bingle and some of the framework is slightly mishapen/out of alignment.

One of the little bugs that i can't wrap my head around is the speedo is constantly 10km above the actual on road speed. The electronic speed warning seems to work perfectly, however the dial is constantly 10km over. it's definately not a ration issue (ie, 55 instead of 50 and 110 instead of 100).

onroad - speedo
10km - 20km
30km - 40km
60km - 70km
110km - 120km
and so on

is there something i can do to the instrument clusted to fix this, and are there legal issues with tampering with the speedo anyway...?

Any and all info/ideas/help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

how about when you're stopped? does the speedo read 10km/h?

if so, all you need to do is pop the needle off and re-position it.

do a search for how to remove the cluster (it's pretty simple, about 6 screws hold it all in).

if it's 0km/h at rest, then I'd grab a cluster from a wrecker and see if that fixes your problem.

cheers,

Cheers Fella's, will have a crack at this this weekend, might try and fix the damn dimmer as well. I beleive there's a wire from the old stereo i need to find and stop it from shorting out.

Starting to enjoy this, might have a crack at some of the dents soon.

Happy motoring guys.

Ya, same thing on my Diamante, I think most auto makers (and especially motorcycle makers) want to over estimate speed for some reason...

Anyway, when my car needed new shoes I replaced the 215/60-16 tires with 225/60-16s on the original wheels. The 225 sized tires have a little bit longer rolling distance. Using my GPS and reading speed (MPH in my case... ;-) it almost perfectly corrected the speedo error.

Now when it reads 60mph (or 100kph in your case... ;-) it is right on.

The tires rub just a smidge on full lock turns if I hit a small bump, but beyond that, nothing
else.

Satisfied I am.
