Hey all,
Looking at picking up a sony xavw1. Now i know for a fact that these were buyable for around $1k from jbhifi. Now they want around $1400. So i'm wondering if anyone knows any other shops that sell this possibly cheaper?
Ebay has nothing in australia, fhrx studios seem to just quote whatever sony asks for on their website ($1500) and thats about as far as i've gone as who I thought were cheapest places to deal with.
Also might be worth considering an Alpine IVA-W202E. extremely good units, can be had for $1400 steet price.

I had a look at the w202e (as i can get it for 1000-1100) but two things have me iffy about it.
1. no divx
2. 6.5" screen vs 7" on the sony
JVC has a feature packed unit that I forgot the model name. But I'm just iffy about the quality of the unit.
Though looking at ebay, the w502e is available for 1400 and eliminates the two things I was originally iffy about.

I wouldn't stress over the quality of JVC units, they are well built and have gained a reputation for producing feature rich units that are good quality for a reasonable price.
What's the warranties like on all 3?

the 502 has the best display without question.
Also you'll find prices on most brands going up during the following months due to the wonderful aussie dollar. we have recieved letters from alpine, directed and clarion telling us of upcomming un avoidable price rises

in other words I should buy sooner rather than later then?

It would be cheaper to buy on credit card now, and pay it off over 2months, than wait until the new stock comes through at really poor exchange rates....

JVC KW-AVX810 (http://www.jvc-australia.com/JVC/client/c_products_details.jsp?catID=28&prodID=372) ftw. RRP is only $1099 and has all the features of the Sony you mentioned, plus a detachable screen for better security. I'm sure you could prob find it for under 1k.
And yes, buy before the end of the year, prices will rise in '09
Edit: Ryda (http://www.ryda.com.au/JVC-KW-AVX810-In-Dash-DVD-Monitor-p/kwavx810.htm) have a good price, and they're one of the few online retails that actually buy product from Australian distributors.

Cheers for the info all. The alpine w502 and the jvc unit i'm hoping to get a look at this week and decide from there whether paying an extra 4-5 hundred is worth it.
Have to say though that I am close to really kicking up a fuss where exactly fhrx studios pluck their prices from (I had assumed they were one of the cheaper places to deal with). I need a double din adapter and a adapter to connect the headunit to my bose stereo. FHRX has quoted me $140 + $120 for each of the parts. Looking online at other retailers, each are no more than $30 dollars with postage.

FHRX are a specialist custom install shop that will give you the right advice, help & information. Where as most online retailers are just box movers who couldn't care less about you after you pay the money.
It's the difference between a specialist and a box mover.
Edit:
Having said that in melb check out; Stlyn Car Radio, Gary's Car Radio, Freeway Car Audio and even check out other CAM (http://www.caraudiomasters.com.au/) dealers.. all are specialists.
