hey guys,

i have had a few problems with my clear coat and protection from rocks and the quality of clear coat, it has either been to soft, not enough hardner, or the clear coat has rinkled with heat. anyways i was wondering if i respray my car, and not put any clear coat on, but put the 3M clear protective film over, will i get any problems in the future, or has anyone had any experience with it, as the stuff seems very expensive though. couple hundred i have been told.

thanks mike

Haven't heard of the 3M stuff before, but I imagine a good quality respray would be the best way to go...

if its 3M, its probably great! i love using 3M stuff, just sux my work doesnt get much of it in anymore, they believe its better to get a lesser quality product from china that does half the job and takes twice as long as 3M. twats

that stuff is great as long as its applied properly... and only use it on the front and i would suggest applying the standard clearcoat aswell.

Yeh I would think that it would not look nice and not blend in without any clear coat??? The paint would also probably age and fade differently to the rest of the car. But regardless, you should be able to put this on and will prevent stone chips. Although I think you would have to wait a few days for the clear coat to dry before you put it on....

The product you are talking about is called Ventureshield. Was owned by a diff company but recently bought out by 3M. I bought some last week to to my complete Ground Effect kit. It's very easy to apply and you can use it anywhere. You are looking at $70/metre. I got mine from a QLD mob called Ducoscratch, ordered off web.

Some pics would be good to see how 'good' it actually looks, please. :)

You put it on the complete GE kit? Whilst on the car?

Its like a transparent sticker that is applied to the areas you want.

So yes it could be applied to the kit once its on the car.

Used it on my centre console - brilliant. Keys, change etc wont mark it, let alone scratch it. Self levels when you apply it, naturally spraying would be more practical than with a brush but i used a brush on my console and despite my severe scepticism and it worked a treat. I really want to do my rims with it. Got all the gear, just not the time.

You won't be able to see anything in the pics, it's that good. If you know what you are looking for you will see a fine line where the film ends on the traling edge of the bonnet and places like that. Other than that you see nothing. I have done my film with the GE kit off the car simply because it involves a whole lot less (like none) grovelling around on the garage floor....lol
