Ive got a problem atm with my TP carby, the vacum secondary throat never opens, even when your at full throttle and 5000rpm. I can push the lever under the diaphram and that will open it up but I can only manage that while the cars off. When I let go of the lever the diaphram pushes the arm closed slowly. Ive been trying to workout what would cause the secondary not to open? the diaphram or the vacum lines to the diaphram?

Can someone provide me with the layout for the vacum lines for the TP magna carby? Another problem I have is that when I turn on the Air Conditioning the idle drops, meaning that the vacum line isnt connected. there is a spare vacum hose from what I think is the A/C vacum switch thing but Im not sure where its supposed to connect. Does it connect to the diaphram at the back of the carby connected to the accelerator linkage?

Thanks

if the dashpot doesnt hold vaccume

buy another vacumme device(dashpot) for the secondary stage

and that should fix your carby problem

* vaccume carby layout for you

eliminate the thermal valve...

provided your diaphragm is fine, the thermal valve stops the secondaries coming on when the motor is cold... just dont floor it when its cold ortherwise you'll flood it.

mine came on every time since, until i got rid of that carby and put the weber on.

Ok thanks for the reply's so far

Magna bluff I got my hands on a copy of that diagram yesterday thanks. When you say if the dashpot doesnt hold vacum how would I test that? When the engine is off I can manually move the arm connected to the vacum diaphram and when I let go it slowly returns to closed or down.

I think the problem is that the thermal valve is not connected properly and that the vacum line going from the thermal valve to the diaphram has a T piece that goes to another connector at the front base of the carby. I took some photos to show what I mean.

My thermal valve with only 3 connections and a blocking device? on the right side? the bottom of the three connections on the right goes to the secondary vacum diaphram. According to the vacum schematics there should be 4 connections on the thermal valve (1 on the right of the photo and 3 on the left) My secondary line should be going from the left side on the photo?

What does this connector do? I just connected it up to a vacum line, didnt seem to matter if it was connected or not.

On the schematic there is three outlets on the rear of the carby, are they supposed to be the three that I have labeled in the pic? I connected 2 & 3 to the EGR valve and the 3 to 1 splitter.

Thanks guys

with motor off

grab some vaccume hose

put it on the dashpot vaccume line

suck on the hose.... block the hose with your tounge

if the dashpot moves while blocked its no good

Red Arrow 1
possibles
has someone blocked it off or is is sucking air ?
does the air filter have a hose connecting to that pipe ?

Yeah you're right it doesnt hold vacuum :(

Where could I source that diaphram from as cheap as possible? Other cars? etc

Thanks

I just had my carby off and the red arrow 1 was connected to a vacuum hose which lead to underside of carby air box, there are two metallic pins and it was connected to one of those.

Thanks for the post TeePee

I was quoted $190 (reduced to $143 for trade price) at repco. Im chasing up wreckers but no luck so far. its not so bad but its got nothing over 3k rpm. fuel economy is the best for any astron in history!
