Hi all....

i have a problem thats driving me nuts...

the first part of the acc pedal is like pushing into a brick wall...then...pow..it moves past the "obstruction" and snaps open...very rough..

stop/start driving is shocking.....when its on cruise its really bad...tried crc ing the area ...but...

any ideas....its on gas too...whether this makes any difference

I had a similar problem when I first got my magna, it turned out that the throttle cable was a bit loose. I tightened it up so the cable was straight but not opening the throttle and it totally fixed the problem.

So yea, just have a look at your throttle cable in the engine bay... could be an easy fix.

try pulling on the butterfly lever on the throttle body to see if the problem is in this part or in the accelerator cable mechanism itself that connects to it,you certainly would feel a obstruction in the T/B when cracking it by hand under the bonnet i would assume!

Cable.. I had the same issue a few years back. New cable and she was great. Cables about 50-70bucks from memory..:)

As others have said - cable issue.

First, check to see if the cable is on the throtle body thing properly, they sometimes (fck knows why) slip off, happened in my festiva, same symptoms - 2 second fix :-)

There is a screw on the side of the throttle body that stops the butterfly valve from closing fully. It will jam shut if the adjustment is incorrect and produce the same symptoms. Check the manual for setup. To test, move the butterfly lever manually. There should be no resistance to it opening. Both my Magnas have had this problem in the past - developed for no obvious reason.

Check slack in the throttle cable. A 10mm ringy to slightly loosen the 2x screws then tap the bracket to pick up the slack if present.
Check to see if the backstop screw has moved and the butterfly is slamming shut as MadMax has said.
Has the TB been removed to your knowledge - i.e. when the gas was put on? If so the TB gasket maybe on incorrectly. Even i've done that one before today  To check, look at the top of the TB and see if the painted gasket tab is in the same spot as the pic below. If not - there's your prob.
