Hello people

I just purchased a couple of Blue cold cathodes for my footwells, but i dont have a clue on installing them....would any of you be able to help me out?

Would it be possible to wire them up to the lights on the roof of the car ?

Thanks

Would it be possible to wire them up to the lights on the roof of the car ?What lights would those be??? I thought blue and red lights on the roof were illegal unless you had other writing on the side of the car :?:

I suppose you want a helpful reply though?

You can wire them up to come on with the interior lights when the doors open, etc, but you may be more wanting to be able to switch them on at other times? To wire them up to come on with the door lights, take out the interior cluster, then measure the voltage to find which wire is the 12V, then run some wires to where you want to put the lights.

Did you get the ones that are supposed to be installed in a PC? If so, you need to cut off the Molex connectors (ie. the four pin plug that would normally hook up to your PCs power supply) which should leave you with two wires going into the transformer (which should be yellow-positive, and black-negative).

If you wish to use a separate switch then you will need to wire it in series with your power supply and the transformer, this is what I have done.

However, I picked up my 12 volt power supply from the same wire that powers my illuminated dials. So, if my headlights or parkers are on, then my blue cathodes are on, unless the switch is off (hope I haven't confused you). This works well for me.

I mounted the transformer behind the cigarette lighter and ashtray and stuck the cathodes in the most appropriate places in the footwells.

Hope this has helped, if I was in Brisbane, I would be around in a flash.
