You can have these fabricated aswell.....

Not the cheapest option, however, for race seats - its the better option.

your gonna have to get a set made up for them
or maybe get some magna seat rails put onto the seats?
with stuff like this your gonna need a engineers certificate

Get on ebay. The NZ importers of Recaro are on there and make baseframes to order which are rego approved. Do a search on Recaro and you'll pick em up straight away.

I have the 02 verada ei which doesnt have side airbags so cant help you on that.
Will see if they come with a certificate but i doubt it cause they'll be coming from NZ.
Will keep ya's posted though!

Yeah being from NZ i daresay they wont be approved for Aus use straight out of the box, but depending on what they are like should be decent enough to engineer i suppose.

Wont be hard to engineer because they will be a factory product out of the box so will be an easier task for you as long as you get ADR approved seats. Will be heaps cheaper than getting them made and alot less hastle.
Will send ya a PM as soon as i hear back with good results but if they dont fit,i'll post a no go thread.

Depends, still needs to meet minimum steel specs and torsion tests, the Rail adaptors need to be thicker then 6mm Steel and no longer then 50mm in length corresponding to the factory holes. Also all bolts used must be High Tensile.

Cool,i'll jot that down and i'll ask them that if they have the rails in stock and i'll get back to ya!

Peope I know who have used the NZ rails have had a quick 'visual' engineering inspection and that's all.

Be wary of reusing factory Mits rails as Recaros are waaay heavier than the factory seat and will pleace more load on the rail than the factory rail may be certified for. Ask around the authorities and engineers before you go down that route.

They are very certain with stuff like that,im still on the chase for them so will hopefully find something out soon.
Still waiting to hear from NZ.
Its amazing how the 3rd gen seat points are pretty much a H pattern and they still didnt make anything for them plus there are alot of magna!

Seat rails arent a problem to get as long as the base of the magna seats come away from the seat, will strip a seat on the weekend and see how it all goes!

I checked the base of the seats.
The rails dont come away from the seat completely so it will be alot of stuffin about to find something but i will keep the info coming though.
All i need is a rail kit for any type of sport/racing seat but very hard to get help from the right people.
Im still awaiting an answer from NZ about them.

Might get my trimmer to refoam magna seats to look like recaros unless i find a rail kit soon or see if other seats fit.

How much would he charge to bolster up a exec interior to ralliart spec then retrim in TL VRX-like dark fabric?

Not sure man, will get a price soon and i'll get back to ya.
Put it this way! It will cost a pretty penny to buy race seats, then get the universal rails and then have custon brackets made up and then have it engineered if you live in NSW so you might aswell put the cash towards doing what i wanna do.
Easier and no engineer's certificate required plus you can sell the interior to someone else later if you part the car.

Dont expect change out of at least 1k for refoaming of original seats then add fabric etc ontop of that.

I just did a heap of research on this here -

http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62886

I'll call them and ask if they have a counterpart in NSW. They reckon for approx. 700 they can mod existing rails and certify, and Autotecnica seats all follow ADR's.

Im gonna upgrade to leather for now but when ya find out, drop me a line and we'll go from there.

I called the Ideal Seat guys in Melbourne, and they reckon $1600 per seat for original Recaro Speed M, and $380 for each rail. They don't stock/produce them persay, but the bloke who manufactures them with them says he has a sketch, and I'm going to check it and get back to him and you guys. But yeah, if you do both and have the seats it'll cost $760 but they're fitted for Recaro's.

But the seats are a bit much for me, just don't mind doing the research.

jesse_james

Totally!
The price for the rails is fine but just dont wanna spend that type of coin on the seats cause i will only be getting them re-trimmed to suit the original trim.
Keep us informed anyway but i might search around for nice recaros that arent dear as and see if they'll do a package deal like if a few people want them done, they can reduce the price on a certain amount ordered.
