Was considering RPW extractors but did'nt want to pay the bucks for the coating they offer. Is there a cost effective alternative I can apply myself? Should I bother?

any decent 650 deg C and above heat paint works just fine on extractors providing you follow the baking/heating procedure...

it's even worked well on my dump pipe for my turbo starlet.. and that thing gets crazy hot!

it will just stop it from going rusty on the outside and look nice.. no other advantage..

Their coating will be much more durable and last longer than any off the shelf paint you can buy. Painting works but not for as long as a quality ceramic or industrial HPC coating.

+1 on that. I've tried everything over the years, and ceramic coating is so much better looking and longer lasting than any paint. The old rule applies - you get what you pay for. That said, Jet Hot charge less than RPW or the coating arm of Pacemaker. Give em a call

First, love the avatar. Always thought about a TL magna with the nose painted black and the rest of the car white. Something hardcore under the hood. "Zero" plate or "AA66MM" etc. Just need to front mount a pair of 7.62s and 2x 20mm cannons, self sealing fuel tanks and an ejection seat :D

Next, you 'could' bother with ceramic coating your pipes but are really going to notice the gains? Different maybe on a professional dragcar or turbo dumppipe. Just looking out for you hard earned $.

exactly..

a set of 6 cyl pipes would be at least $450 to coat...

what are you looking for? somthing that will stop them from rusting and looking dodge for a couple of years?? a $16 can of heat proof paint will do the trick no worries..

i painted the extractors on my AE86 (bit of track/street) with a Hi-Po 4AG i built for it.. and constant 8k+ sustained RPM didn't seem to bother the paint at all... EVEN WITH HEAT WRAP!!!

VHT used to do aerosol cans of this paint, might not be cost effective compared with HPc or Jet Hot. my understanding of the theory is that the exhaust heat stays inside the pipe, and hotter gas moves quicker. But as EZ says, don't know if it will matter on your street car.
But, it will stay looking good, so it might be worthwhile to you.
