At home so I decided to change the ATF fluid as the N light flashed on a few times when I use to give it a bit of stick and it took up to 5 secs to engage R fron D sometimes
Went to mitsu got the fluid a 5 lt and a 1 lt of SPS3 and suprisingly a big bit cheaper than the Castrol TQF ST that we have to use - both containers for under $40 and a new filter as well all up $65
Well what an adventure the oil that was in it was very dark brown to black - the same colour as old motor oil and the magnetic plug was covered in slime type gunk and it stunk to high heven.
It dropped just under 6 litres of toxic goop and don't get me started on getting the filter off the top of the box I went to super cheap and bought a device to go over the filter and clamps onto the filter to undo it - broke it into 2 pieces and the tool was launched towards the back fence:rant:  - no filter should be this tight
Next trip to Auto Barn and got me self a better type undo thingamebob a 3 pronged clamp that rotates and gets tighter on the filter as you undo it - bingo it worked :D
New oil new filter and 1 happy camper -
I might drop the AFT fluid in about 3 months or a few thou kms to see waht colour it is and go thru the process again

recommended thing to actually get mitsu to do the tranny fluid, as they can do a full flush of the system, make sure everything comes out :) costs about $200 or so i think tho!

Have never done flush of Transmission Fluid, but have read the Factory (ie Mitsi) Workshop Manuals.

Go to "Tech Torque" Forum, look for "STICKY" thread which contains links for Misti Genuine Workshop Manuals for each series of Magna/Rada. These can be downloaded as PDF files, and are EXCELLENT.

The Transmission Flush procedure is explained very well, but it takes a LOT of fluid - involves topping-up and flushing fluid until new fluid runs clear IIRC.

The PDF's are fairly good to navigate - I'd highly recommend all members download them - even if just to educate yourself before paying a mechanic to do work on the car.

I had dramas with a 4-sp Tippy gearbox - complete failure of drive/reverse at only 57K kms. Was an 7-8yo car at this point, I'd had it a week and hadn't treated it badly. The Workshop Manuals made it easier for me to understand what the Auto-Trans bloke was talking about (he was spot-on, too - knew straight-away what had happened, and was completely correct).
