I'm not sure if any of the TE/KE-TW/KW models came with black plastic interior door handle surrounds? I'm going for the chrome door handles, but I don't really want to go with the chrome surrounds as well, I just think it looks like too much chrome. However, the grey ones that I have on my car will look out of place between the chrome handle and the black fabric I have on the door cards.

So question is, did any models come with black plastic door handle surrounds? And if so, which ones?

I have a '02 TJ Sports, with black/dark-grey trimm inside. This car was fitted with Black Int Door handles in a Black Trim/Cup.

I've recently split a set of Chrome Int Handles - Chrome Trim/Cups into my Sports with Black Handles, against a mostly black splodgy cloth door card. The Chrome internal Handles have been donated into mum's Executive with her Grey Trim/Cups, against greyish door card fabric.

Very happy with the result in both cars. In each case the interior is that little bit smarter, without being like a Pimp's Convention Chrome-Fest.

In homage to Mohit's Chrome-Strip on Mirrors "bling-it-on" upgrade, I was fortunate to get a crap-load of sticky Chrome at Kmart, for something like $1-00/ten meters - stupid cheap. It's 3mm Chrome strip - its EXACTLY ideal to fit the gap on external mirrors. Have done my TJ Sports and my KJ (Colour-code Mirror Pods/Chrome/Black Lip), as well as Mum's TJ (Black non-colour-code mirror Pod/Chrome/Black lip) - and all look very noice to me.

I've also done the 3mm Strip across the joins in the dash/console - between air-con fascia and top centre-vents, and between stereo fascia and air-con fascia. The thin chrome strip isn't too garish, hides the joins and give illusion that its a complete panel from top to tail.

Getting back on-topic, I have a set of Black Inner Door Handle trim/cups if you wanna make an offer. I'm in rural NSW so would most likely have to post em.

Pics? Sounds good... what was the exact product you got from Kmart?

I recommend painting them with a gloss paint. They will stand out more and break up the chrome :)

ie. Sable black?

Btw, if you get chrome surrounds with your handles - I'm interested... PM me. Mine only came with 2 surrounds, and 1 was broken.

If not, I'll be painting mine.

I considered this because I have my console sprayed gloss black, but the handles and their surrounds are such a high-use area that I think they will just get too scratched up and/or chipped.

As long as you do a few extra coats of clear it should be fine, TL door handles survive everyday use, why wouldnt interior surrounds?

Okies,

Just tried for pics with cheap camera in the dark = FAIL.

Will try for pics in the morning - tho there is a lot going on here.

As my cars are quite rough by AMC standards, I'll try to limit pics to those aspects I mentioned in this thread - all the unrepaired panel damage (cars bought with minor bingles), the shocking paint on Sports (dunno WTF they did to it.... either industrial fallout or too strong detergent or something).

Same goes with Part No's of the door-handle cups and the sticky Chrome. Tomorrow, I Hope!

First try with pics. Have resized images to reduce bandwidth, hope it works.

TJ '02 Sports - Chrome Int Trim/Cups

Okies, after a savage JPG compression, that worked.

Parent's Exec, has Chrome Int Handles, Grey Trim/Cup. Thin Chrome on Dash n Ext Mirrors.

Now, for Contrast, Sports - Has Black Int Handles with Chrome Trim/Cup. Colour Code Ext mirror with Thin Sticky Chrome. Bit more sticky Chrome to dash, around double-DIN slot.

With both cars, I face a choice about Interiors. Exec has painted-silver lower console (around gearstick) and Ashtray - very FAIL job. Think I was trying to give it a TL/TW look - has gone crap in heat.

Just got woodgrain trim from FleaBay, which is not OEM panels but an overlay product. Got enuf to do both Exec and Sports in Air-Con Fascia as well as Lower Console (gearstick).

Hope these pics are OK enuf to show the ideas with Chrome Trim - it definately 3mm. Tried to get photo of package but having lappy issues. It was from KMart (Blacktown, as it happens) think brand is "MotorPro" - a cheap "house" brand anyway. Dark Blue Blister-Pack Card. Is priced orig at $3-00 per 10m roll, think it was about $1- or even 50cents per pack.

Okies, had pics named wrong and put up 2 x pics of my Sports. Here is the parent's exec. has one strip of chrome across dash fascia b/w stereo and air-con.

The Chrome also looks good against woodgrain in my KJ (car not with me today, no pics avail). By trimming the sticky Chrome carefully at the edges, its possible to insert it into the gaps at sides of console/fascia. Trim to reduce the "thickness" (sticky-back to chrome-front) where it will poke into the gap at sides, poked-in helps hold it in place and gives better look.

If you cover both joins above and below stereo panel, it gives impression that the upper conssole is one-piece from centre-vents to ashtray, with two horizontal chrome trims for "bling".
