Okay, I blew my 12" Fusion sub the other day and am in need of a replacement.

The Amp I am running is a Alpine V-Power MRP-M1000 single channel
I have a feeling it was the amp that destroyed my sub.

So I'm after a new Sub and was thinking of going with Alpine and staying 12"

Can you guys give me some advice on matching subs to amps, I'm also going to make my own box which will lead in to finishing my boot install.

Thanks
Greg

are you wanting to stay with the single 12"? if so the one i would recommend for that sort of power would be the x-type 12"
if your willing to go to 2 12" subs dual r-types work really well with this amp

Go either 1 Type X 12" or Type R 15" or 2 x Type R 12"s all of these would go off with this amp.

Firstly,

What is your budget?

Secondly, does it have to be alpine? There's so many subs out there, I personally wouldnt limit myself to Alpine.

If you've already made up your mind, then just buy the most expensive Alpine you can afford, no real need for a lot of discussion IMO*

*Sorry if this sounds harsh, but Alpine only make so many 12" subs, its like asking for advice on wether or not you should buy the Falcon S pack over the standard falcon.

For $500 there is a huge range available.

I found Marty from FHRX Studios a huge help and ready to answer any amount of questions and he really knows his stuff. Also has a big range in stock from a lot of manufacturers. I would say give him a call.

Vibe, Boston, Oz Audio, Hertz etc are all brands I would look at. Check his website out for specials.

What about Clarion? I'm a pretty big fan of them, not sure what they are like for subs, but i've got the splits and 6X9s and i reckon they sound mint.

Yeah Alpine Type X is good but there are a lot better out there for the money. Is space an issue as well?

Out of the above I chose the Oz Audio Me 12.2, but that was pretty much only because the New Vibe Space hadn't hit our shores yet, and after owning the Boston for a few years. Best thing to do is get out their and audition. Are you in NSW?

Also the Image Dynamix IDQ could be a decent choice.

If you are only gonna go alpine, go the 12" type X sub. I have one and i love it, its awsome for big drum hits in rock / heavy music and holds up very well with really fast drumming (i listen to alot of black metal). The sound quality is great too. These can be had 2nd hand for well under the $500 mark these days.

BUT.... there are alot of other options for the same money if you want to try a different brand.

Digital Designs DD1512 w/DVC. Thats $480ish I think, and will easily take the power you've got to provide :P

Edit: Scratch that I was thinking of the DD2512a :P Its $480ish, $499 retail, 750w RMS, will handle much more though.
