*I've tried using the search buttion, cant find what i want*
Hi all, i have sourced a 4G63T and will be whacking it in. Firstly, i need abit of help gearbox wise? Is it in anyway possible to keep the standard auto gearbox i have for the time being? Auto is my practical at this current stage.
What will be the best ECU to use? Haltech or WOLF?
Will my battery have to be located to the boot?
Thanks guys.

if your doing it go manual or dont go at all.. would be ridiculous
2 - move the battery to the boot anywya, give you more room for piping etc

Do a manual conversion....Youd be stupid to keep that crap auto gearbox soaking up all the power, slipping, grabbing, leaking fluid etc + your going to have to get that wired in man....thats no easy feat...
ECU's Not too sure of, Heres the one I'm using
www.adaptronic.com.au
Battery, no, plenty of room in the engine bay :D
isnt this motor a bit smaller? like 2L or something
Also, weather you or a shop will be doing it, expect the car to be off the road for 2 months MINIMUM....Mines almost 4 months now...

yeah, wiring everything in will not be a problem, it will all be done by WOG Performance in Dandenong.
Price will start at $600 for ripping out my current engine and dropping in the new one, than however long it takes to get up and running will depend on the final cost.
The missus drives my car a fair bit, so putting in a Manual G/Box at this current stage would be impractical, but i dont want to loose power. Is there anychance a VR4 auto g/box would fit??

WOG performance, bet you they have never worked on a magna...
I'll tell ya now, wiring that in will be $1000+. Since you are having the Auto wired in thats another 40ish wires right there.
Now not too sure with this motor, but you *might* need new AC lines and/or power steering lines
Ill tell ya know that auto gearbox should be blown up with C4

Haha, i dont think many shops have worked on a 2nd gen Magna, yet alone interested in doing a conversion!!. And i know here the job will be done correctly, not just someone trying to get it on the road working ASAP, it will be done to perfection, therefor it will be putting out the figures i want.
Wiring in the 4G63 is pretty basic. You need to adapt the engine loom to suit the chassis.
There are 3 or 4 plugs on the engine loom. 1 of them connects to the chassis and gives the dash tacho, engine temp but it also gets 12v and gives it to the ECU.
There are only 10 wires to connect and I have done it before in the past fitting 4G63's to other cars.
Auto might be a problem, but I don't think that there is much to it either.

My understanding is thats what Sogg used in his 4g63 TN, this way he also got the Vr4 factory front LSD.
Although i remember reading somewhere else that the fwd converted trannys had a tendency to die in the ****. Might just be rumour.

A 5 speed manual gearbox from an HH VR-4 or GSR will do fine.
You can get them for very cheap these days. A few hundred dollars from yards.

Man i hope u checked that that block was RHS Tranny or ur rooted cos i was doing a bit of a rumage about this sort of conversion outa interest and the 4g63 went either way as far as i could tell... like evo 6 up it coped the tranny on the LHS treatment. However the evo 4 had it on the right and the 4g93t from the GSR had it on the right also.

The evo gearbox is 5 speed? What would i loose, maybe like 10kw? i drive in peak hour traffic monday-friday, whats the point of having a manual in such conditions? A 5 speed auto g/box will be nearly as good and alot more convinient.
Im doing the conversion for my own enjoyment, not to race at every traffic lights against every commdore, falcon, wrx i come across.
Hell yeah i'll give it abit when i see Mario in the front seat with Maria in the canary yellow VL with 19inch calais rims on the front and 15" stockies on the back. If i was going to race on many occaisons i will def be going the Manual g/box.

I'm going to put it out there that a 4G63T auto in a TR/TS will probably be as fast as a manual 4G54 in a TR/TS (judging by redbook's data on each engine with respect to car's weight etc). There is a substantial gain to be had with auto/manual conversions especially in a 4 cylinder application, just not enough torque to get that slushbox moving, especially with the weight of that whale TR/TS.

Auto or Manual, i still believe the 4G63T will make a significant power increase. If I put a Manual gearbox in my current 4G54 with 230xxxkms, personally i think it will be a waste of money, an engine with that amount of k's will soon start to be having its problems, although Josh did look after that Car extreamly well, so it may or may not be an issue.
Anyway, after tossing up between a DOHC conversion/4G54 Turbo/4G63T Conversion, i've decided to go option C. I think it will be something different and in the end will reap it rewards if it works out.

I did bring up a thread which was over 3 years old but the guy went from a 4 banger to a v6 DOHC, all he needed to do was fabricate up one engine mount.
theres a few routes you can go. If you could of found a manual box for the 4 banger, and got it in cheap, would of been fun to do so, but that would of made it as fast as an auto V6...so sort of a waste...
So in the end if it doesnt work out....V6 DOHC Would be tons of fun, and a straight forward option...

Ah Paul, I can get a 3.0L DOHC, with 55xxxkms for $600? You think this would be a better option seeing i can add extractors etc and having it wired in and running for just under $1500?? Would this work out better performance wise, i havnt done much research on that engine so im not too sure!!
I will be able tp sell the 4G63T for the same price i purchased it so that wont be a drama! Just tossing up between the 2 now.
Basically, putting in the 4G63T my car will be off the road for 2-3months.
The DOCH wont be nearly aslong!

I had a member off here help me with my engine and transmission conversion which saved me alot of money, and I thank him so much for helping me do it, but other things get you anyway.
just remember you have to give it a good service
So going by what I put in mine:
Timing belt kit $120
Water pump $45
Spark plugs $120
2nd set of spark plugs and ignition leads (Ebay special :P) $150
Rocker cover and spark plug gaskets - $80ish
Oil for engine (Got 2 bottles) $60 5w-30
Oil for gearbox $40
Oil filter $10
gasket goo's $30
= over $500 in servicing items
So although getting all the help you can from mates is *** awesome, you will still need to spend money servicing it (duh) so just dont factor out that price.
Also you'll need to upgrade brakes minimum to twin pots with good pads and or slotted's
Single pistons don't cut it even with a standard motor.
When mines on the road it's getting fitted for brembos but shh:badgrin:
Also with your mate whos an auto elec, going from my experience so far, they wont be teaching you how to wire in ECU's to an aftermarket engine anytime soon so just make sure he knows whats he is doing.

So the 1500 is factoring in the removal/installation of the motor, wiring, any custom items that need to be made etc? do all the mounts even line up with the 4g63? also the Evo7 GTA box (the slushbox) is still an awd box, how are you going to overcome this issue? also you running factory ECU or aftermarket?

the 1500 was for the 3.0L DOHC, which i thought was a straight bolt in. but have no found out it isnt as easy as first thought.

As previoulsy discussed (and you would know) the 3L DOHC is a straight foward conversion. but for 4 > 6 will need the pass side engine mount made up (not a big task) besides that need power steering hose made up and air con lines made up, oh and a V6 gearbox.
If you used a stock ECU and stock exhaust manifolds, probably a tad over $3000, maybe close to $4000 once u find a good manual GB
but that is interesting, if your using an AWD box how do u plan to run it FWD?
