View Full Version : Mitsu dealer servicing costs?
Hey guys,
Anybody happen to know what mitsu charge for a service? I haven't had to get my car serviced since I moved and now its a little overdue. I don't know any decent mechanics around so I'm considering going for mitsu services however I have heard they are expensive.
Any idea on prices?
Cheers,
Dean

Don't mean to be funny but have you tried calling a few of them?
They'll tell you how expensive they are over the phone.

Very busy days at work lately, by the time I have time they are closed.

depends on the service needed
its about $280 for a minor (15K,30K,60K,75K)oil change, saftey check, any issues etc +serv
and about $500-600 for larger (45k,105,135k,etc)this is coolant/brake fluid change + service
also about $890 for major (90k,180k)timing belt+service

I am not defending the dealerships as they are expensive however when you look at the equipment chosts alone, these costs are horrific. Then you add disposal costs for oils etc, insurance, wages, super, rent etc etc and you soon see why they charge like they do.
My workshop was a money pit to say the least, I had 6 people working for me at one point and the costs were unreal.

mal, i understand that there are incredible overheads, insurance, people working for you with not much of a clue, all the other crap going with it
but dealerships are stupidly expensive. A good honest mechanic id be happy to pay dealership prices for however.

Mate I agree that the dealers are sharks, I used to work for a place in Hobart that did Subaru, Porsche, Merc and VW. The prices that they charges were astromical even back then in the late 80's.
As for them not being any use, I have not worked for a main line dealership, I remember at my work, every little complaint got investigated to the degree we used to with the permission of the customers, take cars home overnight to try and diagnose.
I remember taking my old TN to Knox when they had a special service and injector clean deal. The safety check failed to pick up the leaking dampers, the leaking radiator, the split CV boots and a host of other things wrong with the car. It was old but never the less, they state a full mechanical check up that is what you should get.
I think a large part of it is the in and out policy, get as many through so the mechanics really become robots

yeah my mate works at a holden dealership out this way, and they have cars booked up for 8 a day, doesnt matter if its an oil change or a timing belt, so thats an hour for each car. Thats fine, until you take out having lunch, cleaning the tools up after each job, some cars taking longer than others or bigger issues. I guess it is a business at the end of the day and the big man is there to make some $$$ out of it!

Do you want the number of a mobile mechanic?
I use him for most things I cant be bothered to do.
He services around 14 Magna's right now, so knows them inside and out, and isnt rediculously overpriced either, new CV's on the Magna cost me $650 including call out fee, GST, and a 30minute inspection of the car (gave me a heads up of what needs to be done in which order).
He's based out near Chatswood, so probably wont do call out fee (im down south over an hour away).
He can also service the car at your place/at your work etc.
I basically agree with Mal,
Its more so the get them in and out asap thats the problem.
The other issue I find with major services, is some items are double charged for labour, its too long of a story for here - but my dad got ripped off by holden to the tune of around $500 in labour. Had a couple mechanic mates look at the invoice, and laughed at how badly he got charged
