Hi,
My magna is knocking at low RPM when cold when you throw a load on the engine (put it in Drive) but ceases once heated or the RPM is picked up.... Any ideas....

Piston Slapping. Common. Nothing you can do short of a rebuild.

check your engine oil, my guess is you are using the wrong grade...

I think this may be a common problem with Te-Tf magna's, certainly with mine.
It is a cold start problem related as Mitsubishi will tell you to the fuel mapping with the ECU,this could be the case, or perhaps it is another thing related to inconsistantcies in the engine coolant, I have yet to experiment with this one though.

knocking as in pinging aka pinking? check your timing, if you dont know how take it to a mechanic and have them check it. if not that then it could be ur running lean at low rpm. leaning out will make an engine predet.
as a thought has anyone ever tried to cool there fuel temp?

Tappet noise? Ive been told is because they are at the end of the oil supply chain (ie they are the last part of the motor to have oiled pumped to) so maybe they're not getting oil to them quick enough. Perhaps check the grade of oil your using as said above.

There has been a few threads I have read on this... My TF was tapping on cold starts and I just put it down to age and a few other reasons but the thing that was making it happen for me was that there was a leak/break in the manifold gasket, once replaced my tapping was gone! good luck!

I just purchased a TF on the weekend and noticed exactly the same thing happening. I hada mate who owned a TF wagon and his did the same, so I kinda didn't think anything of it...until now?? What should I do re warranty do you think. It was purchased with a 3 year warranty.
Cheers

Check the timing
Reset the ECU
and check the resistance between the injectors
Does anyone know if the car has a cold start injector? if it does im guessing urs is faulty and the car is running lean
