Hi all,
I have a question for all car owners, regardless of make or model, but preferably in black. Question is, what are the options & recommendations for cleaning/polishing your car for a real good shine?
After I wash my car it looks great - but even after a few days it gets dusty (even though always garaged), and being black all the dust and dirt is easy to see.
I don't want to slave away for hours buffing and cutting (like a teenager on his first car) but if there's something reasonable out there, I'll give it a go.

Go and get a full professional detail on your car ....clean , buff , polish , wax then use Quick detail and wash regularly.

wait three - six months and do it again.

Blacks a pain in the bum but you gotta love it when it shines :D

Try Techwax worked for me when i had a black car It gave a great finish. But you will still get dust on it. Black is a great color but as your well aware you will need to spend every weekend or second weekend keeping the damn thing clean.

If you like a clean looking car dont buy black, easy as that, a silver/grey look good until they are really dirty. i wash mine every week and polish bi monthly with meg's cleaner, sealer then tech as a top off.

Just get one of those soft dusters and dust it daily in the garage before driving it LOL

Not much else you can do with a black car.

I filled my garage with excess carpet (also easy to vacuum) and made sure the ceiling stayed clean and free from dust.
This kept my black car dust free much longer.

Wow I was so suprised to see this old thread resurface... yet I still have not done the detail. But onto the comment at hand, I too was thinking just the other week of getting some cheap/second hand carpet or rug, cut to the same dimensions as my garage (single garage for 380, double carport for wife's car), to park the car on. And as you said, vacuum it out when the car is out for a wash. And maybe put 1 or 2 of those door-snakes (or similar) on the back garage door, which is rarely opened, to reduce airflow getting in.

probably cheaper to have an automatic sprinkler as you exit the garage...LOL

How about an electrostatic generator like a Van Der Graf?
Repel dust, cars, trucks and eliminate follicle droop forever!

Install an ERPS, it works on the Pajero for repelling dust ...... & hopefully rust from the beach.

I was having a look at one of those, Fooz. Have you got one or anyone you know. I park next to a beach when I go to work. Not good for rust (or perhaps very good lol). PS Black isn't a colour. Ok let me have it!!

Yeah I have a 6 coupling unit on my Pajero. They reckon they work but who knows as I don't keep my cars long enough for them to rust out lol

Besides that the ERPS puts a 440V negative charge on the paintwork which actually does repell the dust.

I got the Defense Pak Electronic corrosion system installed when i bought my 380, it was 18mths old. Check the warranty on these items as mine is only covered for 5 years from date of manufacture and when i checked the Mits is covered for 5 years under the new car warranty anyway so a waist of money.

So how much are these ERPS systems?

just stumbled across this one

I have just as much an issue with dust on my car

I have just got my hands on some Prima car care stuff from ZAS http://www.zas.com.au/

this is so nice to work with and my dust issues are pretty much non exsistant now

wash with mystique than apply amigo than epic than slick for a OH MY finish that lasts for at least a month than top up with some slick once a month (thats what the reccomendation is anyway)

Wax based products are dust magnets yet these are polymers

I give mine a good polish and wax with techwax, and then make sure I drop into a self serve wash at least once a week and spend $2 giving it a quick pressure wash.

If you keep that going regularly, you should be able to eliminate alot of heavy buildup

Just washed the car today.
I had a look at the linked site but couldn't find those products. That's 3 products you mentioned? Where can they be bought? I'll have a look at them sometime. I'd like to spend some time giving the car a good clean over the Christmas break.

Bit of a thread mine, but as I've got a few days off work I decided the give the old bus a bit of a treat for her 2nd birthday (well 2 years with me anyway, pushing 5 years old now).

Grabbed a Meguires Quick claybar kit (claybay plus lube/cleaner) and gave every inch of exterior paintwork a good going over. Surprisingly little muck came off onto the claybar, as I keep it pretty clean anyway. Ended up with a nice smooth shiny surface. Then gave it a good going over with NuFinish polish, now has a really shiny mirror finish all over.

I've tried most types & brands of polish, but nothing comes close to NuFinish in my book. Easy to use, no hard rubbing, and a deep lustrous glossy shine that lasts for weeks. But it's hard to find now, I looked everywhere and eventually found a bottle at Sprint Auto Parts.

Can you get a higher voltage one to repel cats and people that like to scratch magnas as well?
