umm are you going to pipe it out to cooler places or just whack it in the engine bay?

Oh btw if you go to advanced search and do a search for thread titles using CAI as your search criteria there are like 7 pages of threads.

well i was thinking of just removing the old panel (obviously) and leaving the air flow thingy that would normally run to the panel.. and just whack in the pod.

Here's a rundown: Don't buy one.

Waste your money on a K&N panel filter instead.

I think you need to do a little more reading of some old threads like I suggested above... there is a small bit of info here http://www.wermspowke.net/wiki/index.php/Air_Filter also

If you are looking at relying on the stock intake pipe if I think you are going to do what I think you are going to do it is physically impossible... people have had to custom make boxes, others pipe it down to a cooler area.

you really need a air tight seal for an enclosure around it to be effective... air doesn't really "flow" into it... it draws the air in like sucking on a straw... if there is no enclosure with no seal you will be sucking in hot air.

There is also some info on the MAF and how it could be affected.

As Lucifer said... you can get a panel filter from K&N that fits in there... that's the easiest way.

I think the part number is 33-2151 but you better double check.

i had one, as i mentioned, but it got stolen when i had my gas in it.. and it did nothing for me..

im not big on performance, seeings i have a 00 verada, so at least a pod wil sound a little nicer.

I had an oval pod in mine exposed in the engine bay and it made a decent difference in tone, but I know it had a negative effect on performance.

I cant recall why you should go the oval over the round... something to do with the air flow pattern but you will need to knock up your own DIY mount plate below it... not really hard to do.

One other thing, it may affect your insurance policy also and make our boys in blue frown... the oil used on the filter shouldn't really be next to very hot metal things... sort of a fire risk... as long as you know these things.

lol, i just looked at that pod for sale. saw a few of my mates ones.. and liked it.. lol. all this crap that comes with it :(

and woooo. hang on... cant this just come in a kit.. lol, what you mean diy mount plate thingy mo-bobby..

and ive never been pulled over by a cop.. dont really think they'll suspect anything.. and what about insurance? you mean premium will increase? ill just rip it out if i have an accident :)

so yeah any tips on installing one..(and the only reason im going for a k&n round is because i can get it for $60) oval is 150+

You really need to at least support its weight by mounting it or bracing... not just the weight but it will move around a lot on acceleration and deceleration... mine was underneath as there are a couple of threaded bolts sticking up below it... concealed the supports nicely... just a few bent thin gauge metal will suffice.

Oh and about taking it out after an accident... I was cut out of my car with the jaws of life last year and in hospital for 5 days... I didn't see my car for nearly a month... not that the incident was my fault but yeah... things could have been worse.

One thing that has popped into mind... I cant recall if you needed an adaptor to connect it on to the existing intake pipe near the MAF...

Sheesh... did you do that search at all? lol

(keeping in mind its not for performance)

+ 1 on that. The round ones are known to interfere with how the Mass Air Flow sensor senses air volume and turbulence. Save the money ona round one by all means, but the car will not run properly and you will only have to flog the round one to get an oval.

As far as fitting the pod goes goes, a very simple guide is:
- you'll need a medium size phillips head screwdriver and a socket set with 10mm socket, some 12mmX2.5mm flat steel bar, and a couple of extra bolts (explained below)
- remove the existing shorkel from your airbox assembly to the front of the car. This will make it easier to then remove the rest of air box. Do not remove the MAF or the flexible concertina hose which mounts the MAF to the inlet plenum
- use the 3rd gen adaptor plate that can be supplied with K&N pods, and a large hose clamp (came with my kit) to mount the pod to the flexible concertina hose
- when you bolt on the K&N adaptor to you MAF make sure you get a 5mm longer bolt to replace one of the two lower bolts supplied with the kit. You'll need this bolt to act as a securing point for the steel bracket you will need to fabricate to secure the pod to an existing (empty) threaded hole you will find on the top of the transmission casing
- cut some flat steel bar long enough to be bolted to the pod at the upper end of the bar and the transmission casing at the lower end of the bar. You'll need to bend a near 90 degree angle into the lower end of the bar. Drill holes in each end of the bar and bolt it up
- done

Hope this helps as a start

I made up a bracket that connected the top bolt on the filter to one of the bolts on the strut tower.

You can have that if you want. PM me and let me know.

Round pod works providing you use the correct adapter that gets connected to the MAF. The key is so long as the honeycomb on the maf isn't restricted in any way by the adapter it will work.
Repco sell the correct one and from what i remember it fits some BMW models too.
How do i know i had this setup on my Verada without any side effects apart from engine heat amongst the traffic.

thanks heaps guys.. that guide really helped.. well ive decided ill save for the oval one..(i spoke to the guys at RPW and they said it comes with adaptor and everything.. sounds easiest)

... and k im going to put a lukey kit on it as well.. that combined with the installation of all my audio gear and in a month or two ill be rapped (happy)lol ... ill post pics when its all done...

Cheers.
