Hi All,

I was just wondering if anybody knows how the car speakers are set up in a 99 KH Verada.

I have just purhcased the car minus the factory stereo console and changer, and I want to install another head unit and changer but keep the original speakers for now. Problem is, I know there are 8 speakers (incl tweeters) and i'm not sure how these will run off a standard head unit.

Does anyone have any suggestions. Mitsi quoted $1700 to replace the original. I told them where to go but now want to find something reasonable in value.

If it is like any other car manufacturer they count every driver as a "speaker". So an 8 speaker system is probably splits in the front ( 1 midbase + 1 tweater per side) and two-way 6x9s in the back.

 $1700 to replace the original!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who are they kidding!? You'd buy an extremely good aftermarket headunit & stacker for that price! And still probably have $$ left to go towards speakers.

Wiring the existing speakers up to an aftermarket headunit will be easy for any decent car audio shop.

But the factory speakers are complete crap anyway really. Aftermarket speakers (& amp :D) is essential if you want some decent clarity :D

Thanks all. I didn't realise that the speakers were combined. I did notice there were Pioneer 6x9's in the rear parcel shelf though and i'm guessing now that these are not the factory stockers? Although the door speakers are still standard as far as I can tell. Any clue's?

The 6x9's aren't stock then. That's good news for you!

As for the fronts, you have two ways to tell:
a) Listen to them, If they sound crap, then your question is answered. Although if your not in to stereo's as such, this might be a bit hard to tell.

b) Pull the door skin off and look at the speakers, to see if they have pioneer or something like that on them. The normal ones are Eurovox branded. You might be able to get away with not pulling the door apart if your able to shine a torch in the grill to see if you can see anything non standard looking.

You should have 8 physical speakers 1 each end on top of the dash(most cars have round plugs there), 1 in each front door at bottom 6" and 1 in each front door at top little tweeter(yes 2 seperate speakers in each door)and 1 each side of the rear parcel shelf.
Mitsu do count individual speakers.
The head unit will only have 4 channels out (Front L R and Rear L R) as all 6 front speakers are spliced off the front 2 channels so if you add a new head unit and tap into existing wiring at head unit plug all 8 will work.

my mate has a TH magna,
his got a panasonic head unit 4 X 50watt, cadence 600watt amp, 300X2 watt 6X9's in the parcell shelf and stock front speakers (to lazy to change)
you would not belive the quality coming out of the front stock speakers!! he hasn't got the front speakers hooked to the amp only all the power to the 6X9 just 100 watts to each fron speaker its souds a millions buck from a distance you swaer he had a subby but he dosn't

cheers

According to my Gregory's service manual (which is unfortunately for TE-TF/KE-KF, so it may be slightly different to your KH) the tweeters in the dash are connected in parallel to the front door mounted speakers. My suggestion is buy one of those AerPro (or whatever they're called) plug convertors when you get your new HU, then you don't have to worry about it, just plug and go.
