Adjustable Whiteline rear swaybar fitted (presently on lowest setting) and rear end of my TJ has been transformed. Whole car is much better. Supposedly TL and TW have different steering. I think the only difference is rear sway bar. All have 3.1 turns lock to lock and looking at specifications in MMAL workshop manual manual I see no difference between TJ and TL. So all this about TL/TW steering pump/rack is BS, I think the only change is addition of rear sway bar. Anyone own TL/TW and an earlier 3rd gen?

Thats a big call because as far as I'm aware they changed the steering pump and rack and made the steering if heavier in the TL/TW
This was from a quick search i did

If I could find a way for a Third Gen to feel (steer) like a 380 I'd be famous.

Keep in mind that the TJ VR-X and Sports came with rear sway bars too, so if your claims are correct, the steering between a TJ VR-X and any TL would be the same.

I'm pretty sure the TJ VR-X I drove a while back didn't have the same steering weight and feel as my TL. I call BS.

Magnas handle like poop anyways, regardless of swaybar or not.....
My $0.02
EDIT: FWD Magnas that is...
I've just converted my TH to a TL steering rack and box and it made a heap of difference, the steering feels a little stiffer but more direct, the vagueness is gone, best mod I've done to date, other than the strut brace.

Ive been told the same better turn in and when matched up with the rear sway these out grip and steer any other aussie made family car.

+1 to that
Was a huge difference between the TH and the KW, both have rear swaybars. The kw felt more connected to the road and gave a bit more feedback

Sway bar not standard on TH. All Magnas/Verada (except maybe VRX) have 3.1 turns lock to lock and just compare the Power steering Pump and rack specifications in MMAL workshop manual. All have identical specs.

MMAL changed the boost curve on the power steer pump to decrease its level of assist at all points so as to put some more weight and feel into the steering system. The earlier cars were very over assisted and this over assist reduced feel. I have had a TF and a TL and i can vouch that the TF was very light in comparison.
Adding rear swaybar to your TJ will not add any weight to a steering system. All it will do is reduce understeer. So instead of hitting a corner and using 1/4 turn before... now you will use 1/8... (those are figures for example purposes only).

i agree.
We have a tj and had a te, the te still had lighter feel to the sterring even with a smaller steering wheel. Same width tires, and the te was lowered.

Difference in the steerring system is the amount of assistance etc.
However the big changes to turn in precision and steering weight I have found on my AWD are:-
Bigger rear bar. - Moderate improvement.
Higher standard tyre pressures - small improvement.
Decent amount of negative camber on the fronts - small improvement
Change to 17' rims and 235 tyres at a decent pressure - say around 36psi- big improvement.
Strut Bar - Tiny Improvement. However looks good! If you have the choice put the money into ------>V
Change the lower control arm rear bushes to the Whiteline ones with increased caster - HUGE IMPROVEMENT.

Ralliart steering is definitly different to other TJ's ... perhaps ralliart steering system was put into the TL/TWs?
