Hi,
I got my install done and a mate of mine helped to put it all in. As you can see from the pics, it's not a job well done but atleast the cables aren't everywhere.

The cadence monoblock FX3001, which goes in the right side, powering the sub has been removed and yet to be put back in as it got repaired recently. Also, as of now the sub is scewered by the stupid green wire. Should I use velcro instead? How does one mount a ported box such as this?
I'm aiming to get mine done similar to Red Valdez's install - http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=31632&d=1183379128
I really like his work, nice and clean and loads of room. The question now is if I should take the sub out of the box and get it fitted with a custom box? If not, what's the best position for the sub and how exactly to get it fitted, like maybe getting a fabricated mounts?
If I should get a custom box, how much should I be looking at here? Also, any good car audio shops in the concord or inner western sydney area? I know strathfield audio do install but will contact them once I get any tips off here.
Some specs of the sub...
2ohm single coil
box is ported (came with the sub when i baught it)
manga 1998 tf
amp @ 2ohms - 500WRMS
amp @4ohms - 300WRMS
TIA guys!
If i didnt know any better, I'de say your install was a strathfield car audio install :) thats roughly the quality of their work.
Custom box - no idea, as I build all of mine (materials can set me back $150+) but dont expect much change from $300......
Personally, get a box something along the lines of this:
http://www.ryda.com.au/Aerpro-UBV12-12-Ported-Sub-Box-p/ubv12.htm
As for the AMP's, you need some decent amp mounts, if you're still in a bind in 2 weeks time, when my stereo is done, I may be able to help out.....will need an arvo, and a case of beer :)

Thanks bud! Is this box any better than the one I've already? The box I've looks like its around 1.0~1.5cuft internal volume. Need to measure the port I guess and get the diameter and things to compare with what you showed. I still like the box Red Valdez and I wanted it to fit in fully. Alternatively I could have the sub cone facing the seat?
You in Sydney? I was going to check out what Doran has to say about this. At one point, I thaught of getting rid of the sub and the amp! strapped for cash at the moment :(
Its an entry level box, just like your one. Its probably more for being able to fit it under the parcel tray neatly, rather than for great sound.
Sub cone can face the seat, however, it sounds average IMO.....muffled would be the best way to describe it.
Yeah im down near liverpool.....
Yeah I think everyone is a bit strapped for cash right now, stupid christmas coming up aswell

Yep, mine fits fine under the parcel tray but need to somehow to find a better mount than those dodgy green wires. Same applies for the amp. I think mounting them is my only concern at the moment. Then when I can secure some cash, I will dump these and look for a better sub+amp combo.
I'm keen on doing the mounts myself as long as someone can tell me the parts involved in it and a little point form n00b guide :)

You should find that a few brands that build custom enclosures for their subs aren't always tuned for max performance and different boxes will make you sub perform differently - good and bad, but also depends on musical preferences.
Ported boxes require a little bit more mucking around than a fully sealed enclosure to get optimum performance. Also, port lengths and diameters can greatly affect the overall output of the subwoofer.
Buying pre-fabricated ported enclosures isn't a bad idea, as long as you can take the port out and be able to change its length if need be.
Depending on your musical preferences, you may even just opt for a fully sealed enclosure - which usually require more power than an ported box to get similiar output, but you're more like to get a flatter response from your subwoofer.
A generic built sealed enclosure is a safer option than a generic built ported enclosure.

now i'm all confused. so in that case, looks like mine is a sealed box! there is no openings. in that case, the suggestion made earlier was for a ported box. as of now, i'm better off sticking with what i've and concentrate on mounting them in a proper way.

If your box has no holes, than yes, it is a sealed enclosure - which makes life much easier if you want to rebuild the box, changing dimensions, but retain the original internal volume.
Does that make sense?

I like sealed boxes for there simplicity to make....
Even a beginner can do it
Simple H x W x D to get a volume in liters
Ported boxes i would only leave to someone who knows what they are doing.

Wow ok. Just to clear a few things up.
That pre fab box is actually very good. Only few con's:
- Port is not on the same plain as the sub
- Port is made from cardboard
Internal volume is up around 1.4-1.5 cuft for the pre fab box. If you have a look on one of the orange side you will notice a hole... that is a port. It is on the same side as you hook the sub up to which is on the left of the box when you are looking at it.
Sub needs bigger than recommended boxes. Ran sub in a sealed 1cuft box and sounded horrible ( boomy ) compared to pre fab ported. If you are to go sealed you should put it in at least a 1.25 - 1.5cuft box or a 1.5 - 1.75cuft ported box tuned to about 35Hz. :D

Thats why I have a nice piece of software that works all that out for me :)
Punch in the T/S figures, and it spits out the best enclosure, tells me when the sub will melt the voice coils so you can tune accordingly, spits out response graphs, the works - I love BassBox Pro :)

MDF........learn to love this wood product, it is, designed for car audio installs lol
MDF floor, bolted to your floor. Then you bolt the sub box to that.
As I said, if you want a hand, give me a couple weeks till im finished with mine (hell I could be done tomorrow) and I'll give you a hand, might even make a tutorial out of the amp mounts.

lol, dont ask me. I lent the car and it was done by a handyman who felt uneasy with the sub moving everywhere :) since then I got lazy and never got around installing it properly.
