So just got finished washing and polishing the car, i've been neglecting it recently with just a wash every fortnight, and now i regret it, was going over the bonnet and found far far too many rock chips  very minor scratches (pulled out the cutting compound for those and got em) and somehow chips out of the top of the rear bumper...i've no idea how those got there  .

I'm almost contemplating buying an old banger to drive round as a daily and garage the 380 for special occasions :D .....sigh more money down to the bodyworks shop.

Sorry to hear that. Yeah I had that bad with my previous Magna; the front bumper, grille, and bonnet front edge were all badly chipped. I went and got it resprayed and it looked brand new! Then one day, following a van, a piece of badly secured sheet of gyp-rock snapped off and hit my bonnet (leaving small dents by no scratches).
With my 380, I never follow trucks; they flick up dirt and rocks - and even worse in the wet! And I only use it 3 days a week.

Unfortunately, Cars will get stone chips if you drive them.
Do you really want to sacrifice driving your awesome 380 for 5/7ths of its life just becuase it'll get a few stone chips?
Fook that man, Drive it all you can, enjoy it all you can, and if it gets stone chips so be it, that only meas you've driven it like you should.

Yeah, A nice bird decided to "drop in" and give me a souvenir one day without my knowledge - I had just waxed the car and it was probably only there for 3 days max. Damn thing ate through my paint and into the base coat!! The townsville birds must eat some pretty toxic ****, and the heat probably doesn't help.

Anyone know how much it costs to get a car repainted?

full respray (not bare metal)

8k
prolly best to wait till its eaten through a whole panel...
or... just replace the panel and get that painted.

$8000 Please....
YLD35L does them for something under $2000 and by the "sounds" of it its not a dodgey respray anyway

usuall price is about $3K for a full respray
$8K is a bit overboard considering paint would not cost more then $500 in most cases

Are we talking closed doors or inside out? You'd only need closed doors for that, and for a full Magna that shouldn't be more than $2k max.

In my previous entry where I said I resprayed my Magna, I meant just the chipped panels - plus other panels damaged when I bought it. Anyway it wasn't an entire respray but to my eyes it looked okay (very good compared to how it was). So I reckon you could either just respray the effected panels... or the entire exterior if you prefer, but keep the same color and do just the exterior (ie doors closed). $2-$3K is quite affordable if your car is already looking rough.

I use a car bra (modified US Galant version) whenever I go on a long trip. On a recent rip to the Hunter Valley, with the bra on, I had a huge stone, that looked bigger than a golf ball, hit the bonnet just above the off side head light. Missed breaking the light and the bra didn't tear but I did get a tiny dent in the bonnet which is almost invisible in most light. I hate the think what the result would have been without the bra.

I hate birds so much I'll find a park at work not under a tree. Another thing that's a pain, if you park under trees and it rains for the first time in weeks, is that you car gets all the dirt and crap washed off the tree on the duco. Hence parking in the open. It's quick and easy to dissipate the heat by opening the sunroof and all of the windows. At least I don't get baked on, paint eating, bird crap all the time.

8000 includes everything - its complete strip (not bare metal), and not closed door, includes all the door seals being removed etc and then replaced again.
also includes new badges and the like - coz retaping badges is a pain!!

the paint is the cheapest part!!
the expensive part is the labor side of things.
(for the record, had a TF come in a couple weeks ago for a quote, dude wants it resprayed and a few extra bits done too, its coming to around 8k, but its a big job, leaving us to pull EVERYTHING off and put it back on again.)

Not for long! Those bats have sucked my blood dry for the last time!! Nah, I've decided to move further down south to be closer to the family in Sydney.

I use a car bra (modified US Galant version) whenever I go on a long trip.
Try looking at this one for those without - http://www.ducoscratch.com.au/clear_car_bra.asp - I have the factory bonnet & headlight protectors so I probably only need a small piece for the underside of the front bumper (steep driveways, tall humps, kerbs, etc). You know that scratching sound when you get it!

$2-$3K is quite affordable if your car is already looking rough.
Such a wide range of prices - guess it really matters who you go to and what level of detail they wish to put in to it.
