I recently bought an alpine mrv-f300 amplifier (50w rms X4 ,120 x2) to power my front and back speakers. Currently I have stock fronts (will soon upgrade) and pioneer 40 wrms at the back.
When i bought my head unit I did not think that i would need more than 1 rca out on the rear of it. But now i have the alpine amp which requires 2 rca's in's' (1 for 1/2chan, 1 for 3/4 chan) which means that i am going to have to buy an Rca splitter cable to run all four speakers. The Problem is that this will render the 'fade' function on the HU useless.
So my question is- Should I buy some 50wrms front speakers and power all 4 speakers off the amp (and not fade), Or buy some 120wrms front speakers and only power them with the amp?
Do amplified rear speakers really make a difference?
Thanks

If the Amp has 2 Gains, for both channels 1&2 and 3&4, you could just set your fade and forget it.
Or let the H/U power the rears only ( amp up some splits) if you are going to throw a sub into the mix.

Ahhhhh yes it does have 2 separate gains! Cheers!
So now all i have to decide upon is if i power all 4 speakers with the amp....or just the two front splits as you suggested. (btw i do have a subwoofer in the back) So do you think the sub would overpower the back speakers anyway? (Its a kicker 400wrms)
If that is the case I will just prob just amplify the 2 fronts...
Cheers for the help!

your post doesnt make sense. you are planning on amping your fronts and rears and you already have a sub running but you only have 1 set of RCA's?
either way, buy yourself some decent front splits (60-100WRMS will suffice even powered off 120WRMS per channel) and power them off the amp and run the rears off the h/u. just make sure you set the gains right so you dont burn the coils

Just run the splits off the amp and unplug the rear speakers, if you have a sub you don't need em....
also i cannot recommend the Jaycar splits enough.

jaycar splits sound good for the price that you pay for them but if he has a bigger budget than $150 then there are better splits out there.. namely hertz, mb quart, boston, RF

Exactly. For ~$150 they are hard to beat, but if you stretch to ~$200 there are some much better items out there.

RF?
Meh.....
Soundstream :)
RF?
Rockford Fosgate I believe.
I know what he meant :P
the 'Meh' was more so to him putting RF in the same class as boston/focal etc  lol

they make some very competitive splits.. sorry if you havent had a chance to listen. dont get me wrong, i did miss soundstream in there, but generally speaking the OP should go and have a listen to some brands mentioned.. including RF..
edit: i missed focal too, but the brands i mentioned are just my preference.. have a listen to JL as well..
also RE audio.......
cant wait to get my XXX splits around xmas :)

imo opinion its no point upgrading from the jaycar splits unless your gonna spend some big money.... but thats just me... when i get to upgrade my splits they will be something from boston's top line..

I know Charisma will shoot me here....
However I do think Bostons are slightly overrated  Tweeters are too harsh, and man, in reality they're just a coax speaker :P
For the same money as you will pay for Boston Pro's ($1000rrp) you could easily get yourself some better speakers, then again, some people are wierd and like the harshness of Boston tweeters
I think in Australia, in general we are ripped off for Audio gear, in America Boston's are good value, because they arnt overpriced by 40%.

I see no point behind unplugging rear speakers if you can just leave them plugged in.
The sub will play like up to about 100hz and the 6X9's will play a lot above that.
Why not have some rear fill if you can?
I have my signal faded 75% to the front and i think that's perfect.
Anyway i suggest buy some new splits and just amp them :)

there ARE things in-between man, not just the cheap and the expensive. im currently running JL audio XR650-CSi and i love them. hertz and mb quart have sets starting at <$250 and they sound awesome. my mate had boston SX60 in his car and they sound reproduction is amazing, even at loud volumes.
you want something high end? have a look at focal beryllium, seas lotus and scanspeak.. then make your comparisons to bostons..

Ahhh thanks guys yeh I think i will just buy some decent front splits and just amplify them. ( But i will leave my rear 6x9's in for 'fill' as you guys suggested, but running off the stock HU.
Sorry about confusing you before 92gen2. I Have a kicker sub running off a pioneer amp which i shall connect to the 'output' rca on the back of my alpine amp. I didnt think i would mention this because it would probably confuse people. Hope this clears things up.
Anyway cheers for the advice!
btw What are you opionions on the RF punch or power series components? I love the way they look, but im unsure on how they sound..
I will also check out some of those other brands! Cheers!

It depends how much money you're looking to spend man.
If you want to fork out $250+ i reckon you should look at the brands these guys have mentioned, boston, focal, soundstream ect.

listen, test, and test again.. thats the general principle. visit a local specialty audio store, bring your favourite CD with you and pop it in. then just compare all the different sets within your price range to each other. dont ever impulse buy, thats the only way you could be disappointed with your decision. let your ears decide.
while you are at it as well see if there are any decks as well that take your fancy and have 2 sets of pre-outs

Ahh kk.. Ok i will be sure to go and have a listen to some Speakers sooooon!:D
Just One more question.....
Will powering only the rear speakers mean that the HU will supply more power to the rear speakers..or will it still just provide the 50w (max) to each channel regardless of how many speakers are connected?

itll only provide the 50w max or around 14-17WRMS to each speaker, you are correct

oh I know there is just personally for me I don't think the difference is worth it.
the focal's are a great speaker, I've just always had a soft spot for the boston's and they are well suited to the music I listen too.. however before I spent over a thousand on speakers I would do some further investigation lol.. I'm also a big fan of the Polk Audio top line for their versatility...

RM Audio who import Hertz have raised the prices on that gear a fair bit. For example the humble HSK165's where $365 and now they are just shy of $500.
Lots of excellent speakers in the Mille bracket - go see an expert and let your ears decide.
