Can anyone tell me if a Unichip piggyback ECU off an LS1 V8 will suit a TL Magna? I asked the bloke selling it what model it is, but he doesn't know.

Thanks

Ken

I cant undertand why he would run a unichip on an ls1 when the ecu is programable.

Strange...

LS1 Computers arent programmable.. People have been able to hack them and reprogramme them though..

So uni chip is a good option. i thing the guys charge about $400 to crack the ECU & Tune.

If you only did it one or twice max its a good option. if you kept adding mods and tuning the uni chip is the way to go..:)

All uni chips should be the same and fit any car.. its only the tune that will differant..

Wiring will be the same.

Reading the other posts, there is at least an "A" and a "Q" version.

Sorry Ken where killing your thread here.
HPTUNERS, LS1 edit and there one one other package and cable that does the tuning.
No cracking install the application plug in the cable and go for your life....

Stupid to put a piggyback on an ls1 or ls2 if you ask me.

If it is a type A box then it should work.

from my memory it wont work.

theirs different types of uni chips, and pretty sure that we need an A, and a ls1 isnt a A.

The Q im pretty sure is the one that works with everything, and they only sell the Q now cos its universal, although im sure that thier is a type b and type c, ive read it on here somewhere!

Nope, there are different models to suit different types of ecu, engine types,i have a type "c" out of my quad cam 1MZ-FE V6 camry that WILL NOT fit my TW VRX as i have already spoken wiith APS,something about the magna having a dizzy and the camry running direct coil over igntion or similar

You need a Type "A" for magnas

Thanks to the blokes with the on topic answers. Listening to their good oil, and reading other other previous topics, I've now purchased a Type A Unichip from another forum member. Now to get the thing installed and programmed. At the moment I'm thinking of using Dynomotive in Bayswater (VIC). They quoted ~$600 for installation and tune.

I don't need more power as such, I'm after a more responsive low - mid range, and I'm trying not to just spend money on fuel quality/octane rating that I really don't need. Has anyone had a Unichip programmed for 91RON fuel? Was there much improvement in fuel economy and mid range response?

I've had a Unichip installed and tuned for $450 in the past. Shop around and save yourself a buck. :)
