As you may or may not know, i've recently purchased myself a KJ Series 2 Verada.

I'm quite happy with the quality of sound the standard headunit and speakers are producing, however, im wanting something that is mp3 compatible with usb input.

What im wanting to know is if im able to keep the steering wheel mounted audio controls and use them with a new headunit. I've asked a couple of installers, one said no, and the other said 'we wont know until we open it up'.

Has anyone else here been able to do this or know of anyone who has?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I know Alpine and I think another maker make little units that allow you to keep your factory steering wheel controls. Think they are probably fairly expensive though, might want to check out the website.

Interfaces are normally between $249 and $299. I've never done one on a verada though so not sure if they make one or not?

Yeah you will need one of the little interface thingys, but make sure the headunit you buy supports them, I learned that the hard way

If you purchase a headunit with remote control (which most new headunits have), check out this little beaut - I've been looking at getting one.

The nice thing, is once you have installed, you can assign the steering wheel buttons to any function on the headunit.

Has anyone tried this unit?

If you buy a Pioneer Headunit, for about $60, you can get a small pioneer remote control for the steering wheel. It unclips as well (can be seen in my user profile pic on the left of the wheel). This was for me alot cheaper than the 200-400 (at the time) Pac Swix or CAT 10.

The PAC units have come down quite a bit in price, and for that little bit extra, it may be worth it now to retain original controls, and keep it looking as stock and neat as possible.

There is 380 with a PAC unit, there is support for some mitsu's and you can find a compatible head unit Find it here (http://www.pac-audio.com/)

SWI-PS

Is the model PAC to suit a 2002 Diamante. Thats a sony/pioneer suitable unit. Just depends if the H/U supports it. Generally if the have an 3.5 mm remote input on the rear, you're in. Pays to check tho. The PACs are 300 in autobahn 150 online in Aus and about 50-75 in US Dollars OS. Note. Warranty is not supported from Ebay purchases See Site for details.
