Having a look at my ei, it has a towbar, but the xi doesn't and I wouldnt mind putting one on there.

I just had a look and there isn't a plate with bolt holes to fit a Towbar tongue onto the xi

What parts do I need to grab off the ei to make it work? I assume there is just a towbar kit bar behind the rear bumper that needs to come out and be transferred

Here are some pics of the towbar on the ei that I want to grab

That looks as if it just bolts into the floor pan? Not sure if that's correct, will look at mt TS tonight.

Yeah one side of it does, but I'm talking about the bit that the tongue bolts onto..... Does it have like a long steel bar running along behind the bumper do you think?

you'll have bolts into the wheel well, and into the chassis near the muffler and and the other side. i pulled mine off recently. very fun

Did you have to remove the rear bar?

nah not at all, just sat underneath with a few props to catch the bar as i unbolted it from where it was held. it just a lil bit fiddly in some places, other than that its a piece of cake...
any other questions gimme a yell :)

grab yourself a ratchet or a rattle gun, 10 minute job to pull it off, the bumper stays

just a couple of bolts each side into the chassis and couple of bolts into the spare wheel well

Cheers guys, will have a look when I get a chance

I like the idea that the tongue can be swapped out with just two bolts once its all on, so i only need to put it on when I need to tow.

So do you reckon my car will have the plug in the wiring loom to plug in the tail light connector?

I'll do it myself, might even go all out and unplug the battery before I start electrical work this time

I should be able to just pull the old loom out of the old car. Might even look at making my own detachable plug somehow, as I wont be using the towbar all the time

get some 5 core wiring and a 7 pin plug.. its easy as pie :)

you can test all the wired with a light tester.. dont need to unplug the battery, just make sure that you turn off the signals before you solder/crimp

in the 5 core wiring loom:
yellow to left indicator - number 1 on the plug
white to earth - number 3 on the plug
green to right indicator - number 4 on plug
red to brake - number 6 on plug
brown to tail lights - number 7 on plug
