View Full Version : TH Temp?
hi all
Ive owned 3 magnas TE TH TJ. All sit just under half way and never move. I just braught a TH magna it moves from just under half way to abit above half way then the fans come on then it goes back to just under half way again only happens at set off lights. Could my CTS be starting to **** up?
Thanks Kurt
Depends on how long you sit at the lights.
Mine (TE) takes ~ 2minutes sitting still before it moves to halfway, and then fans kick in.
How is your radiator? blocked?

Yeah mine takes about the same time to. But it must be my fans cause they dont come on early enough. i dont reckon its got anything to do with the radiator

if its only moving just past half way, then fan kicking in and cooling it down, sounds like its doing exactly what its ment to do, as long as its not going past 3/4 it shouldnt worry it

Mmm mine did this till i did a coolant flush and put this antifreeze shti in there. Nice now.

The cooling system should be checked every summer, fresh hoses, fresh coolant, a new radiator cap (cheap, new seal) temp sensor etc
It really does depend on how often the Fan comes on and the temp gauge jumps, there can be problems if its happening constantly, however in warmer weather this is very normal as the fan is sucking out the hot air to cool down, which is fine.
Most cars I have seen never go over half way even in hot temp, so I would check out the above things I listed.
Car environment is different so monitor the situation

I dont think it is normal cause none of the heaps of magnas go past half way at all. I Checked coolant hoses ect. Thats all perfect. I was wondering when the fan comes on in your car.? My car goes 5 and half small notches up then both fans come on then when it cools down then the big fan stays on but not fast.
When does the low med fast supposed to come on.?

i thought BOTH fans only come on (high speed) when you have your ac on?
mine never raises above just a bit UNDER the halfway point.
if yours is jumping up and down, might be the thermostat needing to be replaced as its getting stuck closed and allowing the coolant to heat up too much - then it springs open and the coolant is released to the radiator allowing it to cool down (with the thermos on)
do you sit in Drive (if auto) on the brakes at the lights?
not only does that put (a lil) extra strain on the engine - and wastes fuel, but it may cause engine temps to rise faster too..
i drop mine back to N at the lights all the time - saves fuel and i like to think that its saving the tranny from dying out on me faster than it should...
do you know when the last Radiator flush was?
when the thermostat was done?
maybe even tranny fluid might need changing (iv solved overheating problems in old fords by changing the transmission fluid, so iknow it can be a factor)
if your unsure, start with a radiator flush - can do it at home relatively cheaply - the cost of the coolant and a 6pack will get it done for you.
always remember to have the heater tap on full heat - helps clear or the heater core a bit.
Yeah i know what u mean but it sits just under half for ages then u have to give it abit or rev it then it will slowlely creep up to past half way as soon as the fans come on goes down the optimal temprature. So what i think its got something to do with the time the fans come on. if the fans come on earlier this problem wont happen i think.
