Howdy all,

The tailgate gas struts on my TS are well and truly worn out and I'd like to get a new set so I've got a few questions.

How much are they normally for new?
Is it worth me getting some from the wreckers or are they just gonna die too?
Can the bonnnet gas struts be used on the tailgate?
Lastly, is there anything out of the ordinary I should know about them before I buy anything?

Cheers in advance.

I picked up a set off ebay.
I haven't used the Wagon much since but they're still working okay.

You can get them from any supercheap (ordered in) from around 36 bucks each from memory, they are made in aus, by gas struts australia, they are a pretty decent unit as well, we use them in a lot of cabinets etc

Not worth getting them from a wreckers, unless you can find a set that are holding firm for say sub $10 in which case go for it. I got mine off ebay, I think it was $35 for the pair, were actually a little TOO powerful, but seem to have settled in a bit now.

The only ones I have seen on eBay are bonnet struts, will these work as well, or are they completely different?

Different as far as I am aware, there's heaps on there I searched yesterday, can't link but just search for "magna struts" and you'll get about 5 of 'em come up.

Had the same problem, and went to Struts Tasmania (it is a franchise so there will be more around), he is a mobile guy, he put new oil in and re-gassed my own for $55 the pair. No more lump of broom handle to hold up the tailgate. :)
He even removed and refitted them, I didn't have to do a thing.
He sells them new for $100 a pair btw.
