Guys
My son has a 94 magna 2.6 ltr which idles way to fast;
I have checked everything I can think of and after reading a few posts in here, Im wondering if it could be the thermol wax sensor that needs to be replaced.
If you recon it could be that. could someone please tell me were abouts on this bloody engine i can find it.

Thanks fellows.
Peter

Anyone stuffed around with the idle screw?
1800RPM, bloody hell, almost redline :P

Have you tried resetting ECU by unplugging battery for 5 mins?

Tried with a/c on and off?

1) Turn Idle screw down
2) Check Ignition Timing
3) Check Fault Codes
4) Replace ISC just in case.
5) Loosen accelerator Cable.

I've actually not heard of the "thermol wax sensor"

With 4) Instead of reaplacing it, test it first with a multimeter to be sure.
Ignition timing if suss would affect the power all throughout the rev range and make it stutter, depending on how bad it is...so not too sure thats it

5) Thats a good one....easy fix..

When I had redone my head last year, my ign timing was out completely, it was set on 0 instead of on 13BTDC I struggled to get up to 2000RPM, then it kindsa let go a little. you could actually feel it. In the lower revs, the car would slug its way forward. Revs were approx 1200RPM due to timing being set incorrectly and idle screw opened fully.

I would say 99% you have a vacum leak, poss the TB gasket as the 4cyl has a paper one, replace it with a v6 metal one. Also inlet gasket, hoses etc. Check your booster hose, disc from booster, block and try that.

Even if the wax bulb had gone I could not see it going to 1800 rpm, your car would just be stuck on fast idle all the time at arond 1300

My car has a stuffed wax pellet (choke on carby model) and it pulls 1100RPM when cold and slowly settles back down to 900, I've been quoted $400ish from a carby shop to replace and thought it was a bit exxy - hopefully gonna fix it with a mate over the chrissy holidays
