been thinking about the sterio im going to put ( eventualy lol ) in my car. its a 92 tr magna

anyways ive listened to a few sytems at autobarn and a local place ( dont worry autobarn will not be doing my install  ) and havnt found anything im to fussed on however a mate handed me a focal booklet today and i found out autobarn can order them in so im looking at

focal access 165 A1 6" splits ( door already has rada pods and had dynamat applied )

focal 25 A1 subwoofer ( one for now with another when cash allows )

focal solid 1 amplifer ( 1x300watt one for each sub eventualy )

custom sub box moulded to boot made 16ml mdf

a 4gauge amp wiring kit ( no idea what yet but know ill need one or two )

well thats it i spoze splits in front door, subs on boot, amps in boot mounted sumwhere next to subs and i was going to make a fake wall up so just the subs show but amps and kit are tidied away out of sight

any suggestions or hints im abit unsure as ill have to wait till i order them to hear them and i wont be able to get a refund if i dont like them my other choice is a rockford system made up of 1x set punch splits and 2x 12" subs on kenwood amps ( cause im poor and rockford amps are like 600each ) also i havnt got prices on the focal set but i know its going be a left nut and right leg deal

Listen to what you want to buy first, since your going for a whole system, listen to all of it if you can. Buying it blind is taking a stab in the dark

focal dont make ****

however, personally, i would get alpine or JL amps should be cheaper and quality is on par, expecially with the JL amps ability to put the power down at whatever ohms you like :)

NORBY

used to have a rockford sub (actually i have had 2 of them) the first sub i had was excellent, its still going now, not in my car though, the second one was rubbish and i killed it pretty quickly.

Rockford speakers that i have listen to have just been plain old loud, havent sounded especially good, although less 'bright' than focals which is probably a good thing

kenwood, meh... my girlfriend has a kenwood headunit... thats about as much nice things as i have to say about kenwood, inmy opinion they are rubbish but, i havent listened to all their products so its hard to say

NORBY

buy my stuff, but you need another $2k haha

nah, umm...

look on MEA which paul linked earlier, and get some good second hand stuff

in your price range you wont be getting anything focal brand new thats for sure

id be looking at some jaycar amps, probably a 4 channel, 2 channels bridged for the sub and 2 for the front speakers, look for some focla/hertz/morel/mb qurt splits second hand and get ewhatever sub you like!

for the budget only get one sub, i liked my 2 subs cos it was loud, but not on a tight budget dont bother

I dig my focals.

The Access series are a very good speaker for the price, sound great when set up properly :)

i have the focals you are looking at in my car, i find them to be a very good speaker, loud enough, but still retain sound quality... the retail for 400 dollars though, so your 800 dollars may not get you as far as you'd like... imo get the focals and a good amp, worry about the sub/s and sub amp/s later, when you get your payout... you won't regret it:)

i installed a set of access splits into a mates car a while ago, they sound very good, especially for just off the pioneer headunit

Were they the 165A1 Focals?

Fatboyslim is talking about the 165V1 Focals btw, don't see that mentioned anywhere in his post :P

Why the .... Don't need to react like that to someone asking a question. You might notice the 165A1's aren't the only things mentioned throughout this entire thread, it wasn't unfair to ask.

have you actually heard them? cause most people find focal tweeters too bright. you should have listened around, that way you would have had speakers you were happy with. but yourself a jaycar 4x100WRMS, youll be happy for the $300 you spend on it.. and youll be able to drive a sub off the rear 2 channels

I had those exact speakers in the front, they were very good, especially considering the price. I have upgraded now, to some higher end Focals (K2 Power), and are sitting in my room, but they will be going back in the car for rear speakers at some stage.

Just remember to go easy on brand new speakers.

The rubber isnt soft yet, speakers are mechanical components and require a break in period.

Just bought some Focal gear tonight actually:

Focal Polyglass 165V1
Focal FP2.75 Amp

Any idea if the 165V1s are a direct fit into the 3rd gens (TF) or will i need a spacer?)

Ers

Build a proper MDF baffle.

Plastic baffle's arnt great for speakers :)

I don't know if you realised but I was the one who asked what speakers you bought. Giving you crap isn't what I was doing, the emoticon makes the person its directed at think your being a smart **** in your reply like they're retarded or something for asking the question...re-read your post and see why I replied the way I did, the sentance itself is not offensive, the emoticon on the end makes it feel that way.

Don't tell me to take a chill pill either, I'm not worked up about it, I really couldn't care less, your response to reasonable question was the problem.

Should sound pretty good. You will be surprised how deep that front doors will allow a speaker magnet to be mounted. These days with neo magnets it also helps with shallower mounting depths.

As Ers said, do it once, do it right for the install. If you get even 12mm MDF and make a baffle to replace the plastic crap, it will reduce cancellation greatly. Be sure to silicone around the edges to make an air tight seal. Hopefully you purchased some sound deadening as well. If not it's a cheap way to get the very best possible mid bass out of such a crappy environment. Be sure to also try mounting the tweeters on axis with the woofers instead of heading straight for the A pillars. :D
