View Full Version : Does anyone still make rubber suspension bushes for 1st gens?
Hey all
I got a wheel alignment done today at pedders and the guy pointed out that the front lower control arm bushes are worn and need replacing. Just reading through a few threads people seem to be likening replacement poly bushes to the ebola virus so i'm looking into rubber replacements.
Pedders and Fulcrum suspension only seem to have polys and Mitsubishi don't stock them at all. Are there any 3rd party rubber parts available? Is poly really the end of the earth? I've now got king lows so the ride comfort isn't exactly brilliant, will polys make it worse?
Any advice?

Am pretty sure McKay do some of them
You are right, anything but rubber is rubbish
I also read somewhere about getting recoed control arms that had all new bushes and new ball joint . Does anyone know anything about these?
Mits charge approx $150 each side for the complete lower control arm, this will then also replace your lower ball joint which is not such a bad thing.
There it is. I think they might have been for a 2nd gen. I'll give mitsubishi a call back on monday and see what they have.
Poly bushes are great - for track cars.
For road cars, they make everything a bit too harsh. There's a good reason why manufacturers use rubber, suspension components need to have some 'give' in them. Replacing everything with poly can lead to failure of other suspension components, not straight away, but after some time.
Yeah thats the general consensus, thats why im going for rubber replacements I just know its gonna cost me my kidney and half my liver.
Ok small update, for those of you who are playing at home. The Mackey bushes are urethane and not rubber and are available from bursons stores. The only other option for rubber bushes is to purchase new control arms from Mitsubishi for $236 + gst a side. I'm really out of options now. Either pay ~$520 for new control arms or fit polys.
Any further thoughts on the issue?

Mackay do rubber as well, i think you just done put a U or P behind the part number.

I emailed them and apparently not. They also are not listed in their catalog. I know they do do some rubber bushes just not specifically for the magna.
I'll emailed back to 100% clarify what is available.
Oh yeah and did I mention a bloody hate old cars!! :(.

Yeha only in suretraks no rubber ones
Ok so it turns out mitsubishi have lots of left control arms but no one in australia has a right. After like 20 minutes of plugging away at his computer the mitsubishi spare parts guy found 1 replacement pair of original bushes at Ballarat Mitsubishi. I paid $155 inc post for the pair.
In terms of fitting them, can I do it myself or does it require a hydraulic press to press them onto the control arm? Do they need to be lubricated with lithium grease or similar before fitting?
Anyone have any insight? My workshop manual just says "renew bushes as necessary" but gives no details.
