I'm trying to pull the original ones out but i'll be stuffed if I can.
I've undone the bolts in the boot to take the overs off the speakers, and god hasn't made a screw driver small enough for me to take out the screws on the speakers!
What am I missing here?

clearly a screwdriver small enough :P
You need a angle screw driver, probably a ratchet of sorts with the suitable screw head fitted. Thats what I used anyway, had my rears changed within half an hour.
Where abouts do you live in Vic, if your local enough I can help you out one day :P

The tool you'd be looking for would be a called a ratcheting bit driver. You'd need that and the appropriate phillips head bit.
I made an angle driver - Put a screwdriver in a vice and smacked it with a hammer a few times.
Was will awkward to get them out, eventually I got some vice grips and undid the screw from inside the boot by grabbing and twisting it :P just don't get too excited when you get them out, still gotta get the new ones in.

do you need to take the parcel shelf off at all?
(also no longer in vic, need to update. now in griffith nsw)

Haha fair enough, the kit I bought with the ratchet in it is from Supercheap, its a small fold up 3 piece unit with a bunch of handy tools in it, cost about $10, makes light work of what your doing.

No you don't, it will prob make it a bit easier though.

You can buy "offset" or "zig-zag" screwdrivers quite cheaply - they are usually double-ended and the ones I got are just bits of rod with an inch or less of shaft after the screwdriver bit, then a right-angle bend in the rod - same deal at other end (except the bend to screwdriver bit turns the opposite way).

....................| <--------- shaped like this (if format survives)
Another way, mentioned above, is to use a 1/4"-drive socket ratchet, a hex screwdriver bit (as used in power-tools etc), and whatever size socket fits the hex of the screwdriver bit. IIRC, Supa-Cheap sell a metric/imperial 40-piece 1/4"-drive socket set for $5- or so.
I think there may have been a thread with pics a few months back.....

How did you get the screws off with a spanner? :|
The covers use nuts+bolts, but the speakers are standard phillips screws.

Mine were Phillips screws with hex heads. And yes these are the ones the speakers were screwed with. Not the covers.

Weird, mine were just normal round ones... Maybe they ran out any used different ones at some stage?

Probably just used whatever was on hand at the time. Can't say that I know for certain but I didn't think the 6x9 speaker covers changed at all from TE to TJ at least.
You think thats dodgy, Commodores from the VL to VS have both metrix and imperial bolts on them.
