hi guys
want to start to learn how to fibre glass things as i think it would be a good thing to learn
i've got a upcoming project that i wanna do (getting the parts now) and to make it work it'll need abit of fibre glassing
so to the people who have done it before what do i need to buy?
and how do you do it? as in applying the stuff and whatnot
any info would be great and i'll post up once the projects done :)

cheers Rob

If you wanna make a complex shape on a big scale, then use cloth, if your only going small you can get away with just using TONS of bog but not really preferable.

But yeah, google it and you should be right.

Oh one more tip, if your only making something like gauge pods or speaker pods (smallish) you dont actually need to use fibreglass sheets. Just apply the cloth and resin, let it harden (use a think cloth so it soaks up the resin and becomes stiff) and bog and sand. I used fibreglass sheets both times I made small things and it just made it harder x5.
Lil tip

Imagine Google on "This is your life"
They'd have to rent out every stadium in the world to house all of googles friends

what im trying to do is mould something to the dash
will the cloth and resin way still work?
and how does fibreglassing go attaching to plastic? or something already fibreglassed?

Is it a seperate piece?
Just stretch cloth over it, layer the resin and catylist mix over it, wait till it drys, bog and sand and repeat till smooth

Fibreglass wont really be attaching to the plastic, it'll be sticking on the wet cloth really

its a seperate bit yes
i dunno how well the part will sit on the dash, but i have a feeling im going to have to remould the base of it to sit properly on the dash

Whatever it is pretty much the same rules apply..
lol thinking about it now Think I've blown like $400 or more on paint and supplies for FG'ing...
ah the cost of a skill....

so your saying all i need is a thick bit of material
stretch it over the guage pods and applu fibregl*** resin?
how would you go trying to mould it to the dash?
just let the material sit roughly where i want it then apply the resin?

Well you'll be moulding it to the base piece.
but yeah, dont do what I did, and use thin *** material, what happens is when the resin drys rock hard, the material is so thin, it cracks. and yeah looks like crap
So yeah, use a thick material, stretch it over to get a shape that you want (staplegun is good to hold the fabric from underneath (if applicable))
To mould it to the dash, you wouldnt....you cant just fibregl*** something to the dash 9if thats what you mean) unless you plan on smoothing the whole dash with bog lol

if you let the material "sit" the resin will weigh it down and it will sag, I know because, ta-daaaa, I done it too! so then you have to bog it alot more:P
