Howdy,

Thinking bout flogging the Magna and getting a new Holden VE SS:shock: , as they are having some great deal's $39,990.00 Drive away and even less if you can bargain the dealer down. Too good to resist and let's face it, the Magna ain't the coolest car out there no matter how much you stick up for it!! But a bloody good car and would be sorely missed

Hard decision between the FG Falcon and VE Commodore but i think the commodore comes out top's at the moment as there seems to be ALOT of probs with the FG's which will take a couple years to iron out as they did with the VE's which are alot better than the early ones.

I regret taking the SS for a test drive, just that V8 sounds is addictive, same with the XR6 Turbo's wine but the XR6T i drove handled like jelly which put me off, then hopped in an XT and drove alot better but the SS handled nicely and felt alot better than the Magna, haven't found a car as comfortable as the Magna till now.

Got a 04 TL ES Magna with just under 90k on the clock in mint condition, full service history, new tyres etc.

Anyone know what i could be looking at for a trade in? as i owe money on it so the more the better, just wondering before i hit the dealers so i have a realistic figure in my head.

Otherwise my other option is a novated lease but really not sure about that one, a few hidden catches and costs that get you in the end.

Cheers,

im guessing around 7 for the TL?

yeah i think SS vs XR8 the SS comes out on top - and im a ford man!! My mate has an SS-V with a full exhaust system...it's the best noise ever.

but when it comes to FPV v HSV....FPV F6 anyyyyday!

i was only offered 6k on mine but that was at 105k on the clock, and mines an 03.

so yeh i would say 8 or 9k. if you went and sold it privately however you would be looking at 10-13k mark.

its crap how much magnas dont hold their value.

When the TL was looking at getting traded in before i bought it, we were quoted 8000ish. Which sucks. But the dealer went on about how no one wants big v6s anymore and 4cyls are all they sell. (The salesman was a complete fool.)

imo you're better off selling privately, just advertise undervalue and it'll go quick and you'll still be 2-3k on top of what a trade-in would give you.

But still for a falcodore you'd be looking at 150% the price

What do you do for a living..?? Hope it not selling or buying cars..

Value wise the Commodore equivilent is worth the less out of the three.. The magna is the middle buy a few hundred than a falcon. We are talking about $500 between all three is magn in the middle..

That's not the case with the cars I've seen in my local area. Maybe that's because the demographic in toowoomba are the same ones who only like RWD manual commodores and falcons.

and no I don't value cars for a living, you can breathe easy

Thank god for that.. Well what they advertise them for and what they get for them is two differant things. Doesnt matter what sorta car it is as non of them hold there value. lets just say should be happy that its not a Merc or BMW..

Thanks for the reply's, guess 8-9k isn't too bad. Paid 13/14k for it 14 months ago. Though i'm naughty i do owe money on it but i think right now is a good time to buy a car, dealers are desperate and doing anything for a sale. 40k for a brand new V8 is pretty bloody good value in my book.

Might consider selling it privately but going to the dealer tomorrow and seeing what they say.

Yeah if it was FPV vs HSV FPV would win hands down, just think there's way way too many bugs in the FG at the moment for me to want to buy it.

As has been said, shame the Magna's loose so much though, the 380's seem worse. In the paper today theres some for 11-12k with 80k on the clock  and only 2 years old! feel sorry for all the guys who own them, aren't worth jack.

Good thing i guess about buying an SS/XR is that they don't drop as much as standard models they hold pretty well, 2 year old models with 50ishk on the clock are around 30-35k when they bought them for 50k. Seems like alot but not as much as say the omegas which you can pick up for 15k these days. Seen 06 BA mk II in the paper for $9,500 today........not that i would ever buy a BA but what a steal!
Thanks guys :)

It all depends on what you're trading it on. I was offered 8000 on a brand new Getz, and 10,000 on a brand new lancer and $13000 on a 06 type-r civic. You should push for a $10000+ overall discount on a $40000 car.

gives you all the info you need about the cars value..

private seller price, trade in, when new, what km range of value, etc.

My local Holden dealer was doing Red Auto SS commos brand new for $36,600 drive away not long ago. You can get a better price than $40k.

Howdy,

Yeah found out today i still owe 13k on the Magna, and it's looking better to sell the car privately as i am buying it through Perth which just means it's a total pain in the **** trading it in, but if i had to i wouldn't accept any less the 10k then i can just pay the $3,500 no problems.

The dealer is doing me a good deal, $41,000 for the car, auto, metallic, paint and about 4k worth of accessories so pretty good deal and it has 12 months rego etc. Had i got a manual would of been looking at even cheaper but i have a Jackaroo and drive manuals at work so nice to get into a car and just go and stop lol

Problem is WA is expensive for cars compared to Queensland and Vic......kinda sucks!

Had a look at redbook, reckon i could get 11-12 privately as well just hard to know, living in a regional town makes everything 300x harder than living in the city.

Waiting for the business manager to give me a call to talk about finance that's when i will weigh up my options on what to do with the Magna. Actually shocked, they order it today and have it from the factory within 2 weeks :O pretty bloody good considering i was told 3-5 months for a XR6t/XR8 from a Ford dealer.

Also the other thing that shocked me was insurance, though it would be horrendous, being a 19 year old male etc though no accidents (on public road anyway) etc but no only $1900 a year $80 a month more than a Magna, though i'm sure i can find cheaper if i try.

Thanks for the reply's though guys, interesting to see others stories as well :D

hehe yeah i know i should keep my car and get a house but it's impossible to afford a house in Karratha, 600k gets you a hole of a 3x1. $5000 a month repayments is almost my entire salary for a crap box and that's the bottom end of the housing market, units and worse are cheaper lol

Loose too much money if i buy in Perth like home owners grant etc but alot cheaper to buy and build in Perth but earning too much to go fly in fly out.

But i earn a pretty good wicket so even paying $900 a month etc still going to be saving enough for a deposit :)

Gone over it so many times in my head, it hurts! i know everyone thinks im  but ah well lol you only live once!

Not flaming you or anything, just giving a general observation.

Right now, with the times the way they are it is a buyers market. Cars on the side of the road are at an all time high, as people have to find means to cut down on spending and get a little bit more capital into their disposal. You'll be stuffed around, haggled with, test drives will need to be done etc. It really does suck having to sell a car privately.

If you have time, wait and sell, but you may be waiting around for a while as the only v6s sought after these days are brand new (for company cars) or LPG converted vehicles. I was in the same situation with my motorbike. Had an 03 yzf250 that cost $10k brand new (i got for cheaper because of sponsorship) Market value is around $4-4.5k, got offered $3.7k trade in and took it. Couldnt be bothered stuffing around with potential buyers, inspections, test rides etc.

So either prepare yourself to get a few grand less than the cars worth, or a long process to sell the car (of which it is still depreciating even more, new year is fastly approaching) and you'll probably get stuffed around and haggled with in the process.
