Basically been having a look at changing the LED's in my instrument cluster, worked out what i need etc, now just looking at colors and wondering who out there has done it on a 2nd gen, and if so what colors you use and how did it turn out?

So far i'm considering red purely cos headunit is fairly red so would match if gauges, ignition, A/C & ashtray lights all red

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

I know a member off here put in 4LED bulbs (x 4 bulbs) into his cluster and it looked GREAT
It was white and just looked fantastic
(Check out Lugo's members machines thread for basically the same thing)
I recommend white mate. Its a more balanced color (shade whatever) which mixes with anything and doesnt look ricey.
Red to me......It CAN look good dont get me wrong, just half the time people who do it have blue cars or something and looks ****, but if your cars red go for it :)
Thats ann I can say really.

I did mine years ago, car was green so lights were green

I just used the std bulb holders and soldered the resitor and LED into this and screwed them back in

I am one of those who hates bright dash lights so I removed the one at each end.

Got any pics? I had a picture of slyts6's dash but not on this PC :( Looked great though, even spread lighting....made the dash look 10 years newer.

i couldnt find leds for my dash (have now $20 for a ts/tr kit off ebay) so i got red caps that slide over the bulbs it looks pretty good also if you wanted to save money try a slim base led christmas light (most are bi pin config) :)

ya they are t10 but not many car shops carry t10 led's and if they do they are either white or blue i found some on ebay along time ago but they were blue and im after red (only recently they started doing other colours) i mentioned the slim christmas tree lights coz for $30 to $40 your getting 20 red , 20 blue , 20 green ect ect i know some fit but not all unless you modify the plastic housing (do-able) but your better of trying the caps first you might be happy with the results and save yourself $20

O.P read my ride thread I did mine white and they look great!

Edit: Here you go http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showpost.php?p=910034&postcount=76

I have white dials and white needles too, the rear facing globes are still blue i should change them to white too, but the white cluster dials do not allow light to shine through from the back so it only shows where the ODO and trip readings are

And dont worry about soldering them, you can now get the correct bulb sizes off fleabay and just pop them in, do a quick search on LED in the 2nd gen forum there have been a few threads about it lately which you should be able to find all the bulb sizes in, if in doubt send me a pm

Thanks for all posts all, after reading suggestions looking at few pics etc, thinking I'll go white for the instrument cluster, and then maybe at some stage find white dials and needles.
And then for the center console(cig lighter, ashtray, a/c, etc?) might go with red just to match with my head unit.
And then hopefully once its all done won't look terrible :shifty:

I've been running a white instrument cluster for several years now, wouldn't go back if you paid me. White festoons as well (and parkers). All center console lights are red, had to resort to the red silicone sleeves as the replacement bulbs for these in LED (can't remember the code, something about "neo wedge"?) are extremely hard to find, and usually only available in white or blue. I too have a HU with red LEDs and white LED text (in fact I specifically bought it off another member, Lucifer, as it suited my scheme better!)

One of these days I'll get around to soldering up my own neo-wedge red LEDs, I've got the LEDs and equipment, just need the spare time...

And I ALWAYS go via ebay, just do your research and you'll get LEDs for a fraction of the price you'll get 'em from a local auto shop.

For clarity/readability, go with white for your instrument cluster.

PS. You can also replace the A/C light, it's just one bulb in the top middle, do a search and you should find a runthrough I've written a couple of times (I'm tired and can't be bothered trying to find it now)

AC one is a T5 globe, but a standard single LED one just spots, looks crap, and annoys me everytime I see it!!

I used the Autobarn globes. Everyone told me that they'd create hot spots but they actually havent. All i did was wrap the sides in white electrical take and hey presto, nice global light. TUFFTR's seen my A/C LED also and he can tell you that that too is not just a dot. Mine is blue and i'm on the hunt for some nice needles.

My dash, SLYTS's old dash, keeps flickering. Guess the leds are dying?

Correct :D
take out, replace.
Due to china supplying so many of these, its so awesome to upgrade to LED's a pain when they start flickering and need to be changed
