latley when cornering hard, my tyres are rubbing my arches, Granted i am rollin on 20's
but they never used to rub, i could corner as hard as my tyres would grip the road, but no guard rubbing.
ive got standard shocks in, and the car has done 281,000KMs and its been lowered a fair bit.
dad thinks the springs are the problem but i thought it was the shocks.
and no the bounce test doesnt work on a car thats been lowerd that far. ive tried.

How old and how many K's on the springs? brand? also how long ago were the shocks changed? just sounds like the shocks are rooted to me.

prob a dumb question but are the gaurds rolled?? spring and shocks are going to wear over time, also some springs have thicker rubber mounts at the top that can wear uneven and cause this problem. but as stated already its probally just a case of a worn spring

Worn shock I'd say.

car was lowered so much it was sitting on the bump stops? which have now cracked/fallen apart?

:stoopid:
totally forgot to mention, my bump stops were about 1/7th the size.
meant my springs bottomed out on each other = one dead 10K old kyb shock
check that too man

I agree with that, shocks are prob rooted, being that low you tend to bottom out more than you realise, especially going over speed humps.
Other people hate it when I go slow over them but I dont care.

Ok,
Springs determine ride height

Dampers dampen the rate of reaction of the spring

No dampers and she will bounce around all over the place

Putting in gas assisted dampers can help reduce the downward travel however then you will have a damper acting against the spring. Bad move, people of the 80's and early 90's made this mistake a lot. KYB were the worst along with Gabriel in the day.

If you are getting rubbing now but were not before, I would say that your spring has sagged thus the wheel is allowed to get closer to the part it is rubbing on. This can be caused by a worn damper only in the fact that it will not catch the rate of the spring as quickly if it is also worn.

Drop a new set of dampers in it and it may fix for a whil but you will sooner or later find when they wear rubbing will start again.

To a point though Mal, most springs tend to last around 100,000 -200,000k's, ive seen old shocks sag, and cause rubbing, ive seen shocks that have the valves that stuff that they had no return at all and the spring was doing all the work. A shock does take some weight, just not all of it.
