Gday guys, i havnt been 100% happy with my wheels since i got them. When i originally was looking for wheels i was trying to find a style that would blend in with the car and not stand out too much, but since lowering and spending quiet a bit of time looking at my car; i think a more aggressive, performance look is the way to go!.. the more the wheels stand out the better.
So... i was thinking about instead of trying to sell my wheels and by more, why not just powder coat them a dark 'racey' colour.
I was thinking on the lines of the 2006 FPV Typhoon colour, as i reckon it looks sweet on the F6's and other FPV's.

So my main questions are;
will most panel shops spray wheels?
How much a corner would you be looking at?
And what is the quality finish compared to store bought original?
This is what my car looks like currently:

And feel free to add your opinion if you think i should leave how it is too.
Cheers. JM

Interesting question though - how much does it cost to paint or powdercoat rims?
Also, which is more hardwearing?

i rekon they would look sick in metallic charcol. i used to powder coat at my old job at west al windows.
if you cant find a powde coating place just go to a window fabricator and they should have a powder coating set up and just ask them if they are willing to do them. shouldnt take much to do them cos you wont need to put them in acid or okem coat. cos they have a clear coat on them already. just sum wax and grease remover and they will be sweet. just also make sure of your colour cos in could change if you are coating over the top of an existing colour.

cost depends on who you no but maybe a couple of hundred powder coat is better than painting all paint on windows of houses is powder cos it can withstand say like sandstorms and other harsh weather this country has
and mainly cos it is baked on

When I rang around to get quotes, The jig I got everywhere was $40-$50 per rim to sandblast, and $40-$50 per rim to powdercoat.
Now thats $300-$400 on rims that I really Don't wanna keep.
Spent $20 on engine enamel spray paint (2 cans) sanded the rims down myself, 1 days work (not even) gave them a nice coat of paint, and they look alot better. They just need to be clear coated.
IMO, its not worth it, unless you are IN LOVE with your rims

Way I see it is if rocks are gonna hit the wheels, it will chip either way.
I am going to do them in 2pk when i have some spare time. Just no time atm.

my rims are machined, would i need to sandblast or could i just etch the surface with 300grit sand paper or something?

You could try ESP its a paintbonder from hardware stores .......experiment first.
machined will still have a clear on them, but not as hard to remove as the full paint. 2 pac or powder will both chip one way or another, easier to touch up 2 pac. look for someone who paints and polishes motorbike wheels as they are used to doing what you want.
