Heya people!

I have DBA cross drilled and slotted rotors from DBA on my TJ VR-X...not really a fan of them (Bought the car with them fitted)

About to get rid of them and fit brand spankin' new DBA Slotted rotors front and rear...

Look for a for sale ad in the near future for a freshly machined set of 4 cross drilled/slotted rotors... (just gotta check how close they are to the thickness limit)

You see I've been having these issues with the cross drilled and slotted rotors where about 2 weeks after getting machined the discs glaze up and become almost mirror finish....I don't thrash the car by any means and the brakes do not get abused at all.....

The brakes still work great... not shakes or anything just make a creaking noise when crawling in traffic under brakes..

I use standard Mitsubishi pads in the car front and rear.... not a huge fan of them and it's the reason why my rotors glaze up so quick...

Now any people out there with DBA rotors... I'd like to ask what pads they run that DON'T glaze up your rotors...

I sent an email to DBA asking them but they have taken 2 weeks without so much as a fart so I'll put it out here for everyone on AMC to give their .02c.....

It's a daily driver that's driven quite gently and will never see a track day....The Evo is for that!

I'm not fussed about brake dust, but I don't want a soft as **** pad that needs replacing every 10,000kms.

I've heard Bendix Ultimate are a great pad that's on the softer side,

As are the Ferodo Ultimates (Prolly the same pad too)

So people....

Any constructive help would be greatly appreciated!!

I got DBA 4000 slotted rotors on the KL and I have Bendix ceramic pads and have no probs with them.

I get very little brake dust from them and don't squeal at crawling speeds, and no glazing of the rotors.

If you need it I can get a pic of what the rotors look like now, so you can judge for yourself.

Just get some Bendix Ultimate mate. Solid pad.

I had lucas pads on mine for a while, good pads, quiet and all that, but leave alot of dust, changed to bendix ultimate, great stopping power and not as much dust.

Thanks for the info guys....

Much appreciated!!

I've been google-ing all the info possible around Australia and the world..

Now..
Basically with DBA slotted rotors and Bendix ultimates... best combo... as Bendix Ultimates chew through standard rotors like a bastard...

Heard good things about Ferodo DS2500's too except they're not cheap

Lucas pads I've heard are bad on standard rotors but great on aftermarket stuff....

What about the Bendix ultra premiums???? or the General Ct's

The DS2500's are more of a track pad and don't bite too well when cold and are very noisy. General CT's will be ok, but will fade when pushed through some hills. The Ultimate's will be the best overall package IMO.

for a start, try hitting the picks harder and braking later, that will be one of the major causes of the pads glazing,no pad is really immune to this and if they are "fast street" type pads it will be worse,as these need to be warmed up alot before they will start to work decently,so if you baby the brakes, these will be rat**** from the get go!and i realize they are slotted rotors and should be de-glazing the pads by themselves, but it sounds to me like you just dont brake hard enough for this to occur,or the pads are contamintaed with grease etc

IMO,you will be best of with a set of standard pads if you are really easy on the picks, thats what the are engineered to survive with low NVH properties, they should be much better at resisting glazing than aftermarket stuff,so im a little baffled

Hmmmm Never thought I would be too easy on the brakes...Maybe that is my problem......Thanks Steve...

See that's why I'm baffled too.... every other car I've had has glazed my rotors over when I thrash/track day them... but the Magna is doing so by driving normally......

And all this with DBA crossdrilled and slotted rotors and stock mitsubishi pads (brand mitso too)

I just don't want this to happen with the new rotors....
Hmmm

I drive like a granny!!!:bowrofl: :bowrofl:

the ultra premium and GCT are the same pad, they are just repackaged for supercheap, Ultimates are good but are a bit noisey when cold and are resonably dusty. For day to day use the GCT's they are an awesome pad for the price

Do you mean a noise when you're crawling in traffic like spokey dokes or a baseball card in the spokes of a wheel, cos I get that with mine and it drives me nuts, but I've had them checked plenty of times and noone can tell me the reason.

lol That noise is because you have slotted rotors. The pads are constantly touching the rotors ever so slightly and so are making that noise as the pads hit the grooves in the rotors.

But the noise made me figure the pads must be in constant contact with the disc, and I thought they were supposed to sit proud until you actually brake, hence the dilemma.

Like I just said... Your pads are always just touching the rotors ever so slightly.

Disciple is right.... slots will give you a bit of noise.... the pad touches ever so slightly even when off the brakes...

No no.... a creaky noise where if your driving an auto... the brakes are just released enough to start the car crawling real slow... like the pad is grabbing and releasing rapidly..

Like a wet finger on an inflated balloon.... (It's the glazing I know cos' after I machined them last and gave the pads a deglazing on concrete it completely disappeared)

The cross drilling gives a delightful "fluttering" sound when on the brakes....

Ummmmm after nearly 3 hours of trolling the net!!!!

Another option that looks pretty good....
Anyone use QFM HPX brake pads.....??

Heaps of people rave over them... similar performance than Bendix Ultimates...very little dust very low rotor wear..

And Aussie Made!!!!!
and cheap as chips.... even make pads for the Brembo calipers really cheap!!!!!!!

At this price I'd be happy to change them every 15,000k's if they are what they say they are!!!

Bendix Ultimates.
Swear by them. Yeah softer but will still see 20-30K out of them in daily driving.
Rotors wear quicker but usually get 2 sets of pads per 1 set of discs.

Best all rounder, work well in all conditions, feel like factory but have much more bite, better feel, and dont glaze the discs.

You put that up knowing I would bite didn't you lol

I had the slotted with the Ultimates on my KR Within a few months I almost needed physio after trying to hold the steering wheel the vibration was so bad. Machined them, new Ultimates again, same thing

Called DBA, they said the Ultimates were totally the wrong pad for the DBA rotors. I called Bendix, they stated the same thing. Both recommended I went the 4x4 pads, will wear the rotors a little more but will keep the heat.

Tried the 4x4 pads, were not too bad but in the end went Lucas, they were dirty as heck but really stood up to massive amounts of punishment but again as they wore down they also started to squeal like my missus when I forge to do the dishes.

In the end I ended up keeping with the 4x4 pads all good.

I know that Nigel however has used the Ultimates and had no issues at all, may be the Ultimates are not as good at being really driven hard or I just had a bad batch of rotors

Didn't know that about the DBA and Bendix mismatch. I must say, I have the Bendix HD pads front and rear on my DBA 4000's with the 4 piston Brembos and the breaking is very good, no fade either.

Thanks for sharing that info...... good to know...

4x4 pads?? hmmmm another set to have a squizz at....

linky: http://www.qfmperformance.com/

I'm leaning this way.....
apparently from all the feedback from the people that installed them, Ford, Holden, Nissan, Mitso etc..
They all reckon the HPX is basically the same as the Ultimate's bar the dust and rotor wear....

Quite a few people even said they were very quiet too......

Just wondering if anyone else used them on AMC??

BTW: Thankyou to everyone that has chipped in.... again, very much appreciated

Ooooor, a totally different option is PBR pads. I run these in my Corvette PBR front calipers with 4000 rotors. Very 'dusty' pad but stunning stopping power and no glazing to report after 4,000km

i had QFM's on my 2nd gen when i had it and they were a great pad. I think they cost me around $50 for the fronts, they stopped well and and little dust. I've got ultimates on my TJ atm, but when they wear out ill grab a set of QFM for it

Thanks again Everyone!!

See after reading all the reports on other Forums, and AMC especially... and it's not a bad thing of course but lot's of people have different tastes.....

DBA didn't recommended Bendix Ultimates unless I wanted to give my car a good hiding... they said that General CT's were good enough.....

Ferodos are also recommended but on the pricey side.... I'd rather work up to them than buy them and kick myself later if they sucked...

I talked to the guys at QFM and Greg (The guy I talked to at GSL motorsport) reckons for what I want (Very low rotor wear, and good stopping power) that the HP-X was the perfect pad....

$131 for all four corners delivered!!!! that's 8 pads in total front and back!!!!!
Cheap as... not one person that got them ever said anything bad about them....

It's a bit of a hit and miss with pads... same goes for tyres too....

I'll report back here to give my in depth look/see for everyone here....
Maybe could be a good alternative for fellow AMC'ers

Thanks again

I thought I posted the web link....

There are links to comments by people that purchased the pads and how they found them to drive with too...

I have QFM pads on the front of my Rada. When the rears are due i'll be going with QFM also. QFM for the win.

I'm using MCB Kevlar only brakepads by Dupont. Low disc abrasion, low to zero carbon content (No Dust), low vibration, smooth operation. $73.00 front and rear.

I have Bendix General CT's with standard discs and couldnt be happier! Good initial bite and very good fade resistance

Well then...

I've changed the rotors over to the DBA slotted on all four wheels...
Added QFM HP-X pads.....on all fours too...

All I can say is after bedding the pads in... which too like 1 minute.....

They bite really hard!! I had to back my foot off a lot when driving around as their initial bite is very strong, like a soft pad, but still can be feathered like any other pad.....still getting used to having really good brakes actually..

No dust as of yet after 500km's.....no noise... and beautiful GLAZE FREE rotors!!!

People....I urge you all to give these pads a go.... they are really that good!!! QFM will go on my Brembos for my Evo when the time comes that is how much I love these pads!!!!

(I have no deal with QFM or GSL motorsport in any way.... )
I just wanna help out fellow AMC'ers if they're stuck looking for affordable but brilliant brake pads.

Again.... $131 delivered to Sydney for all four wheels is cheap as... best of all they're Aussie Made!!!!!

DBA slotteds and Bendix ultimates here.

No problems with vibration. They bite hard and haven't faded on me once. They are however, very dusty and squeaky, but I can live with that.

Glad to hear you're happy with them! ;)
