A quick question, I had the car at the mechanics yesterday to get the rear bearings checked out because they were starting to get a bit noisy, and he was feeling the tread on the rears and said irregular wear will cause the same noise as bearings. Has anyone else found this??
Before I go to the expense of replacing the bearings ($500 plus) I want to make sure it's not them. The tyre place I went to said it's a strong possability it's tyres.
I don't want to spend money I don't have to!!
Any ideas??
Cheers

would the wear happen to be because of your low suspension?

Possibly, but the tyre place said it shouldn't be a major issue with the height. They have had cars much lower than mine and much more camber.

FWD cars are well known for irregular wear on the rear tyres, that is why you need to rotate on a regular basis
Yes, the tyre being lump can make it sound like your back end is about to fall out.
Do you have a slightly 'overweight' chick sit in the back on one side day in day out? this can cause uneven wear.....
Swapping to stockies in the back and testing it for a day or two is the easiest way to see if its the tyres. Uneven tyre wear can cause strange noises.
My fronts were stuffed due to bad wheel alignment, and made a 'woosh' sound like a brake pad scraping on the disc....new tyres, new wheel alignment and no noise :)

I took the car to Bob Janes today for a wheel rotation and now the sound has gone from the back to the front so it pretty much confirms it's the tyres!! Time for new ones I think.

Kotara. Dropped the car off and walked over to work.
