Anyone out there fitted a quick shift kit to a 5sp tippy box or know someone who has?

Interested to know how it went.

Theres only 1 "quick shift kit" that i know of and thats a valve body upgrade out of an 01-03 eclipse for the 4a51 GB, expect to pay around 1800 US for the components and another 2-3k installation

price seems excessive, my brother fitted one to his soarer, cost about 350-400 and he just fitted it himself.

Aren't they easy to fit?

Different car, different costs, different difficulty in installation.

Different kettle of fish all together! lol

Yep, and being there is a lot of machining work to retrofit the kit hence the price.

1st lesson in modifying a magna.................. open ur wallet... bend over and brace urself....

dont compare the price of a modification to anything.... if u do want to multiply the price by aleast 5

then add 25% to that figure and your close to the mark. For example to get around 800 Fhp out of a say, RB26 or 1/2jz is around 20k give or take (using decent gear) for a 6g74 its closer to the 35-40k mark, purely because of extra labour costs because people dont want to work on these motors.

here's a link I found a while ago, it's a good read about how much the W5A51 can handle and how to make it shift faster, and should apply to the F5A51 trans:

wow..300+kw from a 2.0l turbo.

i would think so. i think the W represents it for an AWD. Anyone find a useful link on how to turn up the pressure?

*EDIT* found a link on how to do it. anyone interested in trying it...even a little bit???

Different casing, same body valvetrain, the gearbox is very very similar to the GTA box (thats where i got my uprated kit and TC pricing via) with some of those guys running 9's and over 800 whp through it.

so if one of you guys drops the case off your auto box and hit that adjusting screw with a couple of turns you can tell me how it went.:D

I just received an email from a mate who is a long time service tech at Mitsu, and he tells me this-
On a magna by increasing the line pressure it will only make the shifts harsher as line pressure and gear application are controlled by the computer, so if anything after a period of time the computer may wind the pressure back as it is constantly measuring the shift timing and how long shifting takes and trying to get it within its programming times by using a duty control solenoid to trim the pressure as it requires. On the vr4 it doesn’t have the same ecu control so mods can easily be made for stronger shifting.

i am still wondering if just a little bit of a turn may stay within the range
