Hey all,
Got my quote the other day for engine-back exhaust system. Looking at like $800 for the xforce polished extractors, bout $350 for xforce high flow cat and $350 for the cat-back exhaust by hurricane/lukey/whoever I decide.
Just curious as to whether or not anyone has had any experience with the xforce gear? Also what brands are reputed for the exhaust n mufflers?
One last probably hotly-debated questions... Do you see a decent gain in economy/power/anything from extractors? Ie: a gain worth the $800?
Cheers in advance

Extractors seem dear, but your probably paying the extra 300 for the polished steel, I'd get pacies
Cat also seems dear, you can get Magnaflow units for about 200 a piece
What shop you going with?

Extractors are more their to assist with big gains for other big mods.

the guy who designed those extractors for x-force, did my car, he is very good at what he does.
he has some very good products, so they might be worth the $800 - the polished steel

mettams in kelmy. So you don't reckon an xforce hi flow cat would be slightly better than a magnaflow one?
I wouldn't say it's worth it for $800. If you like the looks and have the money then hey, go for it, but nobody can see them. :)
I got my pacemakers for $300, and I was say yes it's a worthwhile mod, crap loads more torque down low, more top end power, etc.
But for $800? Not me, sorry. :P

i have the mild steel exforce ones at the moment, i honestly couldn't tell if they made a real difference to the performance of the car.. all they did was make it sound like an untuned 300ZX (possibly the worst sounding car ever made next to a VW bettle), the secondaries are not even close to being the same length (this is quite obvious in the pics). Sperco has them in mild steel for around $320.00 RRP I THINK and stinless wouldn't be crazy expensive.. but call them to get a price.. the cat back exhaust comes in 2 sections, the rear muffler, and the middle section.. i can't remember retail amount, as i don't know them..
labour wise.. probly about 2-2.5 hrs to fit the whole lot, and thats including the modifications required, about 3.5 inches needs to be cut off the 'cat back system' and they don't make a bolt on center peice with the cat..
the extractors cost me $182, and the cat back exhaust (both sections) cost about $260, i put in a nice stainless spun metal cat in place of the factory one wich was about $180..
other than that i fitted it all myself, and cut and finished off the required bits..

tell you what though.. i'm glad i didn't pay any more than $180 for those extractors.. they are rubbish.. the stainless ones are the exact same jig, just made from stainless tube.. not mild steel..
i'm, ditching them for a set of pacemakers we've modified with nice merge collectors and a couple of changes to the lengths...
the cat back exhaust great though :) highly recommend but it's redback, not exforce (same ***** if u ask me)

yeah i asked about pacies and they're still $700-$800 nowadays so if they're the same going rate I would prefer thestainless steel I rekon

i would give you my mild steel X-force extractors if you were in my area..
i don't know if you even read my post.. but if you want the car to still sound nice, you will have to redo the secondaries to be closer to equal length
Hurricane apparantly do a nice set that workwell.. that arn't to expensive.. or you can just try and pick up a cheap set of second hand pacemakers, have them ceramic coated.. they sandblast everything first anyway.. would only cost a couple hundred..
or did you specifically want the wank factor of stainless steel?
TRUST me.. get the pacemakers, the X force ones will not do anything in terms of performance.. if anything i think it made it doughier down low cos the secondaries are about 20 inches out of length..
just having extractors doesn't mean you'll get an increase.. you can spend $100 on some.. or $1000 on some custom fabricated extractors.. the difference would be like chalk and cheese.. i'd say the best 'off the shelf' extractors i've seen would be paccies hands down.. i'v enever met anyone that hasn't noticed a decent difference with fitting them.. ofcourse there are better out there with custom tuned legth designs, better collectors.. steps downs in the pipe dia etc etc.. but wouldn't really go to all that effort for just a relativley stock engine..

Yes I did read them mate; thanks for the help. Based on that info I guess I'll go with the pacies; still $800 but if they sound better then why not. I am getting the entire system done though, engine-back so I would have thought secondary piping would be resized to fit/function properly.
Cheers again

one glance of the pacemakers, and the exforce ones it will be blatenly obvious they are just junk, designed to replace the stock cast manifolds.. nothing more.. hence why i can buy them for under $200 for the whole extractor/secondaries/flex join etc.. they arn't ment for anything special.. i will be giving them away to who ever wants them when i fit the modified pacemakers..
for sure go the pacies.. they are as close as can be to equal length, and will sound nice and smooth and revvey, i don't know if you have ever heard a nissan 300zx.. but they sound like a V6 thats alternating on 4-5 cyliders.. thats what the x-force ones sound like horrible doesn't come close..
also make sure you get them to fit a hi-flow METAL cat.. not a ceramic one.. they don't flow nearly as much..
Pacemakers + Stainless Spun metal cat (with matched 2.5 or 3" some ppl use flex join) + 2.5" bolt on redback mandril system is what a hell of a lot of these guys use.. some use different mufflers.. but everybody will say that is a very good starting point.. and to a degree the basis of nearly all the hi performance N/A and most S/c magna's have in their setup..
Jason has 230 odd FWKW out of his, and he is running that exact setup (port matched etc) but all with stock pacemakers, so they definitly are a decent bit of gear.. but as i always said even they can be drastically improved on..

800 for pacies? Try 470 from Philcomm, brand new.

I think his including installation, while even though still expensive, some places charge 700-800 for pacies installed

He should give you a better deal than 7/800 fitted if you are getting a whole system. I paid 400 for my paccies and 150 to fit seperately.

to get extractors does one need to upgrade the rest of the exhaust system, I've got a lukey muffler rest is stock.

Not really, though if you're chasing big figures it'd make sense to.

Thanks, I'm not chasing figures really, just things that make obvious response, or difference when driving. So would it make more sense to upgrade exhaust then later on do extractors, or.....? As in what will give me the most obvious difference straight up.
I hope this is helping th OP too, if not, my apologies.

Interesting, you can tell just by looking at the pacemakers they're better compared to some of the other designs I've looked at. Compared to lukey designed extractors the pacemakers have bell mouthed ports, for if they dont get matched up properly on the head when they're installed.
The torque difference and top end power is more noticable in a manual car cause you can put it in 5th and put your foot down and it climbs up hills faster. Highly recommend the pacemakers, and for $300 new, they basically bought themselves.

Agreed, I have seen the Xforce ones, they are not proper "extractors" at all. Properly designed extractors have equal length runners which allows 'scavenging' to occure. Also they generally quite long to aid low/midrange torque production.
I would go with Pacemakers, they are are well-designed proper set of extractors at a great price. But I suggest you also replace the flex pipe section with 2.5" over the factory 2.25" (maybe 3" if FI/serious NA build).

agreed with most of the people here..
im running pacies with stock cat and 2.5inch mandrel bent exhaust... will be upgrading to 3"cat and maybe 3" exhaust when money permits,, too busy house shopping atm....
I tell ya... modding cars is great fun, but modding houses is even more fun and more addictive and unfortunately more expensive...
