View Full Version : Solving heat problem.?
Hi all
Ok i posted earlier about my fans coming on late Got that diagnosed and it was my big fan motor not working properly. Got one from the wreckers bang the fan comes on were its supposed to be just below half. The fan stayed on for about 5 till 10 mins and stayed on just below half. Then it crept up to half or just above then stayed there for about another 10 mins then i just turned it off. It wasnt gonna heat up any more but the fan didnt come off and on like it was supposed to it just stayed on the whole time because the temp obviously didnt go down enough. What could this be.?
Thanks Kurt

Does it turn off eventually or does it keep going till battery is flat...??? and you say this hasnt happened before..??

No when i ran it for about 20mins the fan didnt turn off. The car was on so obviously the battery didnt go flat. I had a problem with the fan turning on to late fixed that with a new fan motor. Now the fan comes on at the right time but it stays there for abit then heats up about half a notch and still stays on so its obviously not cooling down enough for the fan to turn off.

Yeah. if it stayed on forever or untill battery was flat it will be the relay stuffed.

I dont understand what u mean sorry. But it might be staying on for a reason cause its not cooling down enough for it to turn off so it will stay on. what do u reckon the problem is.?

if the fan isnt turning off, it will be either the coolant isnt getting cool enough(blocked radiator) or the fan temp switch is buggered. Check these two out. You should be able to test the sender unit with a multimeter set on ohms. Test the gauge sender unit while you are at it, it could be faulty too.

Both the fan sensors came out of a working tl. And the fan motor is working and from the wreckers. So i think the coolant isnt getting cool enough for the fan to turn off. Could this be a thermostate.? u mean by the fan temp switch being the temp sensor that turn the fans on and off.?

you could check the thermostat, though i dont think it would be the issue. And yes to your question. There should be 2 sensors on the coolant manifold on the g/b end of the engine, and i cant remember if there are any in the radiator, so check there too.

The one with 1 wire is for your temp gauge (IIRC!!correct me if wrong though) so id just check the two wire one which is the input for temp for the ECU
