Checked under the bonnet yesterday, oil is seaping from the centre spark plug on the front bank onto the rocker cover.

I posted this up on MCA as i didnt realise there was a temporary AMC site.

So far, i have been told it could be piston rings, blocked PCV (which its not) or simply spark plug seals.

Things to check: spark plug and seal, double check pcv valves and lines are clear.

Anything else that maybe causing this?

PCV valve and Spark plug Seal just about covers it man.

If you replace the spark plug seals you may aswell do the rocker seals at the same time. Dont get genuine Mitsu ones though, aftermarket ones cost me something like $8 last time (rocker seals that is)...

Piston Rings, WTF!!!!!!!!!!!

The seals on these are well known for going hard, they leak. Is common on most cars with plugs that go through rocker covers.

Remove BOTH your rocker covers, clean them paying attention to the breather tubes.

The main cause is the large pipe to the left which vents between the 2 covers gets blocked with sludge and then you get this and cam seals leaking. Clean the PCV, the hose and the tube the inlet manifold as well.

Go to an automotive paint shop, get a spray gun cleaning set for about 11 bucks, some cheap carb cleaner and go your hardest

thanks guys, sounds like a saturday afternoon job to piss off the missus

I had already check the front bank PCV valve that runs bank into the inlet manifold, and it allowed air to flow in one direction only, as suspected. Pipes also clear when blown through. I have a sneaky suspicion that the rear bank is blocked though, appears to be a bit of gunk around the tube ends.

Will have to crack open the manual for this one, havent removed the inlet on this before. Will i need a torque wrench?

+1

Replaced my rocker cover seals, along with plug tube seals.

Plug tube seals were rock hard.....could have broken a window with them.

That line at the back as you said, was also about 50% blocked.

New PVC costs around $3 while you're at it too....
